We have sound but no picture?
Is
the Lamp ok? Go to the rear of the set and turn on the set with your
remote while looking at the vent slats. If you can see a bright light
through the vent slats then your Lamp is working. If the lamp is on and
you have sound and no pix, then the Digital bd is in what we call
"Video Mute" and will have to be replaced. Also make sure that the Lamp
Door is installed and the screws are tight
also check to ensure the following.....
1. re-seating the DVI cable on both sides
2. Check to be sure the lamp door sensor is closing (that is not your issue but i thought i would post the complete answer)
3. Check colorwheel is spinning up (should be a low hum, and not sound like a fan)
*** it is very possible it is a failed colorwheel, but the set should go into shutdown, so it is probably not the issue.
4. If the set has sound but no picture replace DMD board....
If
the set is working and then just stops working best bet is the DMD ( i
would not replace just the dmd it is cheaper in most cases and much
easier to replace the lightengine) but if the set just is not working
and just failed and is now always not working best bet is the digital
board.
If you have an osciloscope you can measure the video
signal from the Digital board and see if it is present with the no
picture, if it is then it is a bad DMD but if the video signal
disappears of then you have a failed Digital board. You can not us a
computer USB scope, they can not read most of the data from the digital
board since they use multiple scan rates and wont trigger on them for
some reason, a old school scope works best i have found, or one of
those new LCD scopes that have an auto trigger work well i have found
that it is all i use anymore.
you can find a service manual with schematics at a very cheap price at ebay......

The 2 chips are on a large metal heat sink near the back of the tv. They will be on the opposite side and will have stamped on them (example) STK392-560. You may also have a blown pico fuse (look like a solid colored resistor part number on board will be like (example) ps8001, you'll need a meter to check if any are open or not most times they are.

My Sony KP-65WS500 is flashing
hi,
Remove the front cover or the back. You need to look for the color gun it will look like a small box with 3 screws. Slightly turn the screws to adjust the color in your case in and out blue and arching lines.. Now the box sounds like a picture in picture function.. Would have to see it. Now it it cuts off power after 5-30 seconds after doing this you could have a bad capacitor on the power supply board which is sending the set into fault protection. A Bad cap with be poped at the top (X) -Top view of a cap should be flat. NOt rasied or poped.

When the display is dark i get red and green arcs
Hi,
Color arching is an easy fix. You need a screw driver and some patience removing the front panel. You will be looking for a box with 3 screws on it. This is the color gun. THe scews are Red, Green and Blue color only, however, they usually don't indicate the color on them. Turn the screw (Slighlty) till the arching is no longer there. You have to do this with the tv on.. LOL
Best Regards and Semper Fi....
Tv flashes red then shuts itself off after only on for 3 min
I have not repaired this particular model. But sometimes there is an IC they refer to as a standby IC. It may also be known as a controller IC. I call it the powerline regulator. And in one case the older Sony Projection TV had an audio output IC with a standby built into this IC. So,this advice is refering to a standby IC. And this IC may be in another form already mentioned. Please visit a Sony Tech. The work inside a projection TV is very complicated, you will need to see the specialist. Give them this note and go from here. Let me know how they handle the repair. Thanks for asking and good luck!
Edge convergence
Installing the Sony type 1 convergence repair kit from
www.tvrepairworld.com should solve that issue. The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions for the repair.
TV Turns Off On Its Own
Hi,
Standby light flashing is error sign and shows tv got problem some where in its circuit boards.
You will notice 3 seconds long pause between red standby light flashing so count pause to pause and post how many times it flashing to diagnose problem of tv.
Thanks.
THE PICTURE SHOWS TSO IMAGES SIDE BY SIDE AND THE
If it looks 3d you have a convergence problem.
This model should use two of the STK-392-560 convergence chips for this circuit.
Both will have to be replaced and a few other easy to check parts tested also.
If you have some expertise or have a friend who does I can step you thru the repair.
Parts cost will be if purchased on EBAY (I have seller I can recommend there) under 30 dollars total.
Let me know if you have questions and thank you for using FIXYA.

Picture is very blue most times. This is a light
You can try adjusting the Blue color output. (Very touchy and dangerous adjustment)
If
you take off the front cover/speaker cover, there should be a access panel. Behind
that, there should be a small rectangular black box with 6 screws on it.
This is the focus block. (At least this is where most of them are
located) If there is no front panel, It may be located on or near the flyback (High Voltage) transformer on your model accessible from the back instead.
It sounds like you may need less Blue in the mix. There is a screw for each color. R, G, and B. Do not
mess with the focus screws, just the ones labeled 'SCREEN.' They may have silicone over them to prevent them from moving. If so, you will need to remove it and put more on when adjustment is complete.
Go
to an unused input where the screen should be dark. Barely turn the blue
down in a dark room so that the Blue spot is at the same level as the Red and Green.
Use an insulated screwdriver and DO NOT TOUCH the focus block and ESPECIALLY NOT the back of it.
Very HIGH VOLTAGE. I found that out the hard way.
Do not turn any of these up too high or damage may occur to the tubes. If you turn them up too much, the TV may detect a short and shut off. this is a normal fail safe. These only need VERY slight adjustments.
I
have found that if the three colors are adjusted in a dark room to
where the 3 color spots (R/G/B) are just barely visible on the screen
at equal levels, there is a pretty good color balance.
I hope this helps! Just be careful. Once again - LETHAL HIGH VOLTAGES ARE PRESENT WHEN UNIT IS ON!!!!!!
