if you have hd cable or satellite box make sure the component cables are properly connected(green red and blue) and matching same color in source (cable box or satellite and tv as well)
also make sure in tv menu that color and tint are 50%

Your TV has whats known as a convergence failure which is common. You will need to find and replace the convergence parts to fix it. You can get the parts and step by step instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

this is listed in the TV area--consider posting a new question in the computer area with the model number of the unit.

Set will need both the STK-392-560 convergence chips replaced===several sites sell kits with all the parts needed by brand/model number with instructions.

You can try to adjust in service mode but it sounds like you did not do this repair correctly. I would suggest getting instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

You can't make SD look like HD thats why HD came out, the best you can do is adjust the picture controls to get the optium picture

The resistors will have marked on the board under them a location number and should be little trouble to find.A factory service manual for kp57ws500 also should with the location numbers indicate a Sony part number and the value of the parts.What bothers me with the model is it is widely known to have bad picture tubes--it is a coin toss that if you replace the resistors they may instantly pop if a bad tube is involved.Get me the location number/s and I will see what I can find out.SD TECH

if the screen has lines in it the Blue CRT is at fault and will need replacement. You can get replacement Blue CRT for that model from www.tvrepairworld.com

Prior to this were you getting a bright red, green, or blue screen with trace lines?

if you have a big sub right against it it needs to be moved away as the magnets can affect the big screen picture.

the convergence ICs have failed and possibly the pico fuses as well your model uses the sony #1 convergence repair kit which is available from www.tvrepairworld.com which has the parts and the CD with repair instructions

Isee so many here with no sound/no picture issues:ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checkingvoltages on the main power board to narrow down the problem.4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.Answers to issues:1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not.Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom.What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over

do not change the board, change the convergence IC's which should be stk392-560's on the D board.

TRY THE MAGIC FOCUS BUTTON. IF THIS DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM YOU WILL NEED A SERVICER TO GO IN AND REPAIR CONNECTIONS OR REPLACE THE CONVERGENCE IC'S AND OR RESISTORS. AND READJUST CONVERGENCE IN THE SERVICE MODE.
