Hair like black lines on bottom of screen
It could be either something on the mirror or perhaps the coolant has leked from one or more of the picture tubes. You would have to gain access to the interior of the set to check both of these possibilities.

How much do you know about electronics and can you solder? There is 1 sure way to find out if high voltage splitter is bad disconnected the Flyback transfomer from it /If set comes on and stays on splitter is bad.Make sure you place high votage lead from flyback where it cannot shock you.or short out anything near chassis. Also check little round blue capacitor behind Hori output they go bad 1200pf 2kvolts. The 9 blinks on your TV means:
+/- 19V line is shorted
IC708 could be defective
PS701 or PS702 is opened.
To do this repair you will need to have basic electronics knowledge that includes hand soldering, use of a DVM and be very careful when working around high voltage.
Stand-by flashing
You will need the G board replaced, part number A-1054-157-A. The board is no longer available but you can contact PTS at http://www.ptscorp.com and have them rebuild the board you have in the TV.
Re: Blinking Stand-By Light
This is the fix and it is not likely a do it yourself
Resolder D6116 & D6117 (Surface Mount) REPLACE D6301 (Do not just resolder D6301 REPLACE IT) Can use ECG116 (1N4004) ALL On G Board
LED blinking Red
This is usualy a problem with a couple of diodes going bad or the regulator. Does the set work sometimes or not at all? I'll try to get you more specifics based upon your model. Figure on $35 or so for parts plus the local labor rate for the total repair cost.

HELP
I suggest you sit down for this one! Even a small amount of any liquid on set's internals can reak havoc. What you smelled were components shorting out and possibly burning. Depending on where the water spilled, you may have just one PC board fried, but many circuits are interconnected, which means possible cascade damage to others. Never place plants anything containing liquid on electronic equipment.
Split /dual screen
You may have inadvertantly pressed this feature on remote. Look for "split screen" on remote or menu, then correct
Sony kp-43ht20 geometry issue.
You may be setting your self up for a major headache. Trying to set convergence requires a professional pattern generator. There are also multiple phase adjustments to prevent linear drift of settings. Please spare yourself, take unit to a professional service!
Standby light blinking
Set has problem in one of the circuits, possibly sweep or video. All modern sets have a diagnostic mode when turned on, such as flashing standby LED. If there is a malfunction, such as a voltage loss or short in one of the circuit boards, the power supply will prevent further damage or fire hazard. Take unit to pro/tech for repair.
