These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. It only works when using TV antenna/cable input.

My TV had the same problem. I called Sony yesterday and they told me to reset the TV. I did so yesterday, and it seemed to work. Here is the transcript with instructions:
Please turn ON the TV. While holding down the RESET button on the Remote control, press the POWER button on the TV. The TV will turn itself OFF, then back ON again. Release the RESET button.The TV will go thru the initial setup, and should work normal.

Sounds like a DLP chip failing if thats the type of TV that is

Weak lamp if no red lights.

If no red lights come up, check your lamp. Door on right rear of TV.

Any red lights? If not, most likely a bulb. Open lamp door and inspect bulb. Change if necessary. It is not always obvious the bulb is bad, a weak bulb can cause the same issue.

Check your manual. Usually a door located on right rear of TV (when facing TV). Make sure to secure door properly after.

Check your lamp. A weak lamp can cause the TV to power down. Also inspect and clean the fans to the best of your ability.

No lights?? Are all fans running properly? Check for dust buildup and clean out. Dust can slow down the fans enough to shut it down. Sounds like a cooling issue.
