My problem is that my system does'nt show any dvd drive in lapto

The driver for the device would have been corrupted by some incompatible drivers loaded onto your pc lately. It could also be that the device has been mistakenly disabled. If not, disable the device and restart your pc. After it stabilized on the desktop, go back to the Device Manager and enable it again. If nothing still happens, go through Control Panel and remove the driver from installed programs. Shut down your pc and disconnect the device. Leave for about 10 minutes and recoonect and power on the pc, the device should be detected by the pc and then install its drivers. If it doesn't detect the device, it has probably gone bad and should be replaced. Good luck

My problem is that my system does'nt show any dvd drive in Lap

I had the same problem, it occurred right after windows installed sp2 and my laptop showed no dvd player with any program, I restored my laptop to the previous day before the update and it worked fine again, after that I just let windows update by itself and it has been a week and everything is fine, also in device manager open the dvd + sign and right click your dvd and click update drivers, if that does not work, right click your dvd, and then click delete, and then reboot your computer, laptop whatever and the computer will automatically recognize the player on startup and it will install again and hopefully that will get your drivers updated, do not worry about deleting the dvd player, it will reinstall all by itself, just have to reboot..thanks

Cd/dvd missing and video codec / video playback issues

The Microsoft knowledge base which is located here : Website Link

Walks you through step by step for both windows xp and windows vista how to delete upper and lower filters and even offers you a fix it wizard which you can download and it will fix it for you.

Also the above requires you to reboot your computer once done.

If you are still having issues with any optical drive ( cd, dvd, blu ray etc ) type computer drive then you can try and install the latest motherboard drivers for your make and model of motherboard ( Sometimes this is also known as the chipset drivers ) to obtain these you will need to go to your motherboard manufacturers website.

To establish what motherboard you have you can use a few utilities.

Namely SIW, Everest ( I would suggest home edition as its free and the latest home edition was version 2.20 ) or belarc.

SIW can be obtained here at this website link

Everest Home edition can be obtained here or here at this website link

Belarc can be obtained here at this website link

Adaptec ASPI drivers can be downloaded and see if that helps. ASPI Drivers can be obtained here on this link or here on this link

Explained here

Also explained here on wikipedia

Also if you have any other burning software ie multiple burning applications such as deep burner, cd burner xp se and nero installed as well as IN CD or roxio etc then it is suggested you only have or stick with one burning appliction such as Nero as mutliple burning applications can cause issues.

Also as a last resort check the optical drive manufacturers website for a firmware update for your optical drive - if they do then it is vital to read the read me file to see what functionality it adds or what it does and also how to apply the firmware update and follow those instructions to a T.

Ensuring that you do not turn your computer off during the firmware update as if the power goes off whilst you are in the middle of the firmware update it will brick the optical drive rendering it useless !!

If you are having issues with video playback then its always a good idea to try and use VLC which can be obtained from here - website link

or windows media player classic which can be obtained here - website link

As for codecs if you are not sure what type of codecs you require to playback video files then get Gspot from here - website link

Download it, use winzip or the inbuilt windows xp un zipper to extract all of the files into a folder and run gspot ( a stand alone exe ) and drag and drop the video file onto the gspot window and it will show you what video codec the video uses and what audio codec it uses ( if any for either ) and also whether or not the video file is a valid file.

For Divx and Xvid you can install specific codecs from here, respectively

For divx get the codec here - website link

For xvid get the codec here - website link

Codecs for both at the websites posted above are for both mac os and windows.

As a last resort for video you can try the codec pack which can be obtained from here - website link

Won't recognize an MP3 format CD

Usually a disc with audio files is not encoded with MP3's, but, rather, audio files. You can check this by manually opening the disc (right click on the player when the disc is in it), and looking at the files. If you only see marker (files of a few kilobits) in "MP3" format, then the disc needs to be "ripped" into MP3 format.

The ratio for audio to MP3 is 10 :1--this means a CD of 700 MB size with 10 tracks will become an MP3 collection of 10 tracks approximately 70 MB in size (this is a standard 128kbps audio quality CD) If the encoding is less (64 or 32kbps), the size of the resulting MP3 is smaller.

The hands down best ripping software to convert your audio CD to MP3's is called Goldwave. Although Nero and Winamp have functionality on a limited basis for this task, Goldwave is a far superior software package to not only rip, but also edit your creations. Once you have installed Goldwave, you use the OPEN CD button to read your files---then save them to your hard drive (in what CODEC or quality you want---MP3, Apple AIF, OggVorbis, etc.etc

Dvd drive won't eject

you can eject manually. There's a very small hole on the front of your DVD drive. Get something like a needle. put the needle inside that hole and push. Your DVD drive should pop out

The dvd icon doesn't display on my system

hi firstly did the dvd drive come with a installation cd, if yes reinstall the cd
if no you could try this
right click my computer (icon) go to bottom of that list and left click properties
a box will open left click on the one what reads Hardware then click Device Manager this should give you a list of things on your pc look near the top of the list you should see 1 that says dvd/cd drives if there is a little + sign to the left of this click on the + and it will open your dvd drive should be there if it is right click on the drive and the left click update driver and follow onscreen promps (allow internet access)
with a bit of luck this should solve your problem.
sorry if you already know how to do this i've wrote it as if you have never been into the device manager before hope this helps in some way. regards gr1o1

Gud morning, I my dvd

ok first of all has anything vhanged, there is a known problem when upgrading XP to vista, where te cdrom.sys rivers arent installed. this is fixable but tedious, if it just simply dissapeared without change, go to device manager:

XP: START> RIGHT click my computer > click "properties" > "Hardware" tab > click the "device manager" button.
VISTA: START> RIGHT click my computer > click "properties" > on the left click "device manager"

under DVD/CD-ROM drvices, you should see your dvd drive, now the field is probably expanded already and it most probably has a yellow exclamation mark next to the device, or it has a large yellow question mark. this means the driver for the vd rive has either failed or is not working properly.

quick fix for this is to simply RIGHT click on the device, click uninstall, confirm, and once un-installed, re-start the machine. apon restart windows should automatically detect the dvd drive as a new device and install it.

if there is simply no device listed under DVD/CD-ROM devices, or the catergory isnt there, windows isnt detecting it at all, which commonly means the dvd drive itself has failed, (the fact it may be powered and opens/closes is irrelevant). but before throwing it away, try changing the IDE/SATA cable. if the uninstall/re-install doesnt work, you may need to re-install it from a winows disk, which is a little tricky. but can be done. let me know if it doesnt work and i will pace you through it.

Stop working

Code 10 could mean either the driver has gotten corrupted: repair for this is to reinstall the driver; or it could mean the drive itself has come to the end of it's lifespan; repair for this is to replace with a new drive. Before buying a new drive check all cables going to the drive to see if any came loose, and reinstall the driver. If this does not work you will need a new drive. Hope this helps & please take a moment to rate my solution. Thanks.

Can I replace the hard drivein my Dish 522 receiver?

That's a yes and no question. Yes you could do your own install if you actually own it or you don't care about voiding the warrenty. More than likely, I'm thinking that if it's an internal hard drive then your going to need to let the manufacturer reinstall the hard drive so that you will not void the warranty. If you don't care about the warrenty then you can.
