System wont do anything

When the self-diagnosis code C-81 displays, an internal problem has occurred with the HT system and will require service. Click the Repair & Status link on this page for available service... Above is right from the Sony site. Get your wallet out and call the repairman.

Cannot find code for universal remotes to make Sony DAV-C450 work

To repair your original remote, open the remote and remove the buttons sectio.(normally a solid piece of rubber with the buttons) On the PC board of the remote, clean with a scotchbrite scourer to revive the circuits and make it shiny. Next, clean the rubber button section on the inside with surgical spirits. Replace cover and fit new batteries.

PROTECT message is on

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

The DVD player will stop playing and the message

It is possible that your system is gettting overloaded and makes the sfety cicuit switch off . This is the protecction circuit to prevent further damage and fire within the system particularity when the output or power is shorted. Check from the speakers for short remove and test . Also use a multimeter to test for short in the output drive. If so disconnect and see if the protect releases. Then you must replace the outputs. Check also the protect cicuit for a false alarrm due to wrong biasing. Hope this advice helps to figure out. Good day

Sony DAV-C450 disc jammed. How can I remove them

your two options would be to remove the cover and disk tray and than remove the disk while nothing is in your way your other option would be to pry it open using a flathead screwdriver which could damage the tray motor and gears neither is suggested if the item is still under warranty or you lack general assembly skills
