Power

Does it click at all when you press power? Sounds like the power transformer may be bad. There is a thermal fuse inside of the transformer that can go open and cause a problem like that.

Turns on but it says

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.

I have a sony str

You will need a powered sub, one that has a built in amp. It will also need speaker terminal type inputs. Use the B channel to send signal to the woofer. Since the audio from the B channel is full range, use the crossover on the sub to determine which frequencies you want to hear. I would start at 100Hz and go up and down from there. Use the gain to adjust the volume in relation to the other speakers. The sub volume will be affected by the master volume.

I need the code to

I just got mine to work with the STR-DE325. I programmed my Dish receiver remote following the reference in the back of the Dish receiver manual. I missed the comment at the beginning of the receiver codes at first which stated to enter a 2 before setting a tuner/amplifier code on aux. I then used the first code listed which was 683 and it works. So it was hold aux on the remote, wait until the aux was enabled by blinking, enter 2, enter 683 for the Dish remote and enter pound. E. I am using my speakers connected via the front

I presume you have proven the channel is dead by trying multiple sources, swapping a different speaker onto it and that the balance control is NOT all the way to one side; headphones don't work either and we're down to proving it's dead before you take it in to a tech, right?

There is the slighest chance that a common control may have developed a high-resistance or 'dead' spot and is causing your symptom. Turn the POWER OFF and operate every control throughout its range a number of times, especially rarely-used ones like Tape Monitors and the Mute control.

If it still doesn't work you might want to prove if its a low-level signal loss or a high level amp failure. One way would be to run an RCA cable pair from the Tape Out to any other device (even a TV with speakers) you might have that accepts an audio input. If IT can't detect receive the DEAD Channel you

Sounded like something popped in the receiver and

You could take it to a tech and let him figure it out or you could do some forensics, looking for burnt components and still not finding it/them or a root cause, and THEN take it to a tech and let him figure it out.

When I turn the unit

See page 17.

Disconnect all speakers and see if that helps. Shorted speakers or wiring will cause this. If it still does it a trip to a hands-on tech is called for.

Cannot hear rear channel on Sony STR-DTE325

First off, you want to correctly isolate what or which channels are/is bad. Use one good known speaker. Connect that speaker, one channel at a time, and test that channel with a fixed volume level (don't adjust the volume when you check each channel). Isolate the low level channels and make note of it. Note: each channel has their own amplifier. Once you've isolated the bad channels, take it to a repair shop and tell them the bad channels. They will then locate the circuit and narrow down the search to fine the problem - it's usually a bad solder connection. If it blows fuses - more likely a shorted transistor. In your case it's a bad solder connection.

I can not turn on the receiver with the remote

Must have a bad remote control then . Did something spill onto the remote near the power on button? Short of getting a new remote you could try poping thr remote control apart and cleaning it out with a mild detergent. Larry's Electronics

The receiver problem

First thing I'd do is unplug it from the mains and check every speaker connection for short circuits (wires touching) Alternatively, disconnect all speakers and plug in a set of headphones to see if the Protect goes away. Check all components plugged into the receiver by unplugging then one by one. Finally if the Protect is still alight disconnect absolutely everything with the receiver volume control on zero. pull the plug out of the wall and let the receiver sit there for an hour with nothing connected. Then plug it back in plug in your headphones switch the receiver to FM and see what happens. If the protect is still there then I'm afraid the repair shop is your next stop.

BUT check those speaker wires especially if you have puppies or small dogs or believe it or not a small child. They tend to chew on things when teething.

Won't go off protect mode

When the speaker wires shorted to each other, the output transistors for that channel probably shorted as well. This means that the receiver needs repair. The typical parts cost for this usually runs between $20-$40.

When iturn on my Sony STR-DE325 it goes into protect mode

Try disconnecting all of your speakers, and then turn on you unit. If you have a defective speaker, or a short in your wires, your unit will go into protect mode. If your unit seems ok with the speakers disconnected, then turn unit off, hook up one of the speaker leads and try it. This way you can isolate the problem.......

Good Luck,
