Press setup to put you back to tv screen. Then press t-Set button on remote. Unit will automatically shut off and there will be an amber symbol on the unit lcd along with the time. I'm having an odd problem with my Sylvania
> Do I need to update the firmware?
If you are lucky; Sylvania is a branch of Funai which is the 'bottom of the barrel' on quality so it may be just another case of Funai-ism.
Other brands belonging to Funai:
Symphonic, Emerson, Aventura, Durabrand, ESA, Magnavox, INSIGNIA, Philips and Misakai
I earned part of my income from servicing consumer electronics some years ago and historically, Funai gear has been among the worst built.
I need a toll free number for sylvania television
contacting Sylvania customer support with the model and serial number of your television, which can be found on the back of the set. Sylvania's toll-free support number for LCD television sets is (866) 321-3927. Call (800) 968-3429 if you have an old tube-type (Cathode Ray Tube) Sylvania television.

You can't use 16x or anything that says 1x-16x or 1x-4x.
The 4X speed DVD-R are difficult to find. (Tried Office Depot,OfficeMax, Staples, Microcenter,Best Buy and Walgreens!) Finally found Princo brand at checkoutstore.com
http://www.checkoutstore.com/Princo-4X-DVD-R-4-7GB-White-Top-p/prin4wt.htm
They worked great!

Unable to "dub" my 8mm tapes onto DVD-R using my Sylvania DV90VE
From comments posted on the Internet by other Sylvania users with a similar problem, I
learned that I had to use a 4X DVD-R (the ones I had been trying to record on were 16X).
And I found that Office Depot sells the sometimes hard-to-find 4X format, so that's where
I'm headed right after lunch. Thanks.
Sylvania dvr90vf dvd recorder
Unfortunately without a firmware upgrade the only disks you can use are DVD-R or DVD-RW. The tricky part is that you can ONLY USE 2X speed. Per my conversation with Sylvania there is a firmware update that will allow you to use up to 8x disks, but they are charging $17.00 for it.
Recording
You need to buy the - disks. (+ will not work).
The instruction manual can be found online.
Putting tapes onto dvds
Have you read the manual? I haven't tried to do that, but make sure your DVD is formatted (the unit will do it automatically).
Sometimes it can record on DVD-R Sony sometimes it doesn't.
So now I get an e-mail from Fix Ya asking me if I found a solution, if not they offer me a PREMIUM (Charge)Plan to help me solve the problem.
If I have solved my problem they want me to tell them how I fixed it for FREE.
Do you guys at Fix Ya use us as your employees to solve others problems and you collect the money? That is such a shame!
FIRMWARE UPDATE
Sorry to hear about your problem. I do own this model too. I have not gotten the update myself. I just started using the dvd recorder.I bought a pack of dvds (Ativa) and now I need to return them, they are not supported by this dvd player. I called the 800 number and they told me some of the dvd brands it supports: JVC, TDK, Memorex, Maxell and Sony. I know Sony works, because I used them before. I also read "Vibratim" brand from Sam's Club works.
