Sylvania MTS/SAP TV.I don't have a remoteI accidentally hit the ''menu'' button on the front. Now I can't get the TV to show anything but static -- like there is no signal coming in from receiver (either through input jacks on front or on rear. Menu gives various options, but none of them gets me back to being able to see the picture.

Remote sensor can be tested with set powered up--usually three leads where it is soldered in---with a meter one is voltage, one ground, one signal----check for the voltage with a meter but a scope is needed to test the signal.

This can be due to moisture build up or dirt accumulating with a static charge to induce voltage and so change the customer control panel switchings.You can try with a good cleaning of the board and panels. Make sure to dry if moisture is seen. Also check for static conducion of high voltage to the control panel that can induce the inputs to work erratic.if not check the processor section- processor damage- and the board for a possible weakness.

HelloThere is a fuse inside the power supply bard of your sylvania TV. Check whether it has blown out. If bllown out, replace it with same type bothe in size and amperage. If the newly inserted fuse also blow up as soon as you switch on the set, make sure that the power supply section has some short circuit in it, and should be cheked well. OK.

The problem is in the vertical deflection circuits which is responsible for giving a full picture. Since the set is 8 years old the money would be better spent on a new tv since more frequent break downs in other parts of the set would be more likely due to age.

Make sure that you replaced the fuse with exact ratings. Low ampere ratings will not handle current as what the original fuse installed. If still fuse keeps blowing after replacing with the same rating, this is an indication that you have a short on the power supply section. It can't be fixed by replacing the fuse alone. Short usually near the AC line where parts like the following are present.

1. Power Cord - even very low of chances but still to be check.
2. Posistor and degaussing - even very low of chances but still to be check.
3. Rectifier diode
4. Main filter electrolytic capacitor
5. Voltage regulator I.C.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instruments, and can't do the job yourself, I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the problem. Don't attempt to work in the power supply if you don't know the safety precaution.

The audio processor is locked up on it and if you unplug the set from the wall for 40Min, then it will reset back to normal.

Usually this depends on where the DVD is connected. Mostly the DVD is connected to the AV channel therefore you have to be on AV before it displays. Ask the person who installed the unit and they can give you more concise info
