Blown Capacitor and diode

I had the same problem. My nephew gave me this set after it quit working at the Gym where his wife was working. They were going to junk it but I asked if I could try and fix it.
The capacitor C2250 was definately blown and easy to spot so I did some searching and found a replacement from an online electronics supplier that didn't require me to buy 200+ as Digitech wanted. Anyway I replaced the Cap and it still didn't work so I started looking and testing components again and found that the Diode D2250 was bad so replaced it as well and now the set works fine. Maybe this is what is wrong with your's and others as well.
It made sense for me to check the diode as it is right next to the cap that blew. https://www.mouser.com for the Cap and http://www.slelectronics.net/ for the Diode.
The specs for the Cap/ CERAMIC CAP. B K 1500pF/1KV
The specs for the Diode/ SCHOTTKY BARRIER DIODE YG123S15

Hope this helps

Red light comes on /

Hi,
The power board has a fault or it is sensing a fault from another circuit and shutting down. If you have an electronics background and some test equipment I can walk you through what to test. Or you can take it to your local TV service center.

I don't see the cable connection on the TV. Is

This TV doesn't have a tuner and thus no RF (coax) input. It should be connected to a set top box by component, composite or S-video cables. Component video (with three RCA video plugs on each end) will provide the best signal (a separate cable with two plugs on each end carries the audio).

I wish that I could be of more help.

The electricity went out and flashed, when it came

did you have a surge protector? if not then you probably burned out a resistor, what its doing is performing a system check while its blinking then finding a fault and shutting down as to not cause a fire

My Sylvania 6842pe 42" plasma

Power board is likely shorted out. It has capacitors on it that can short out, overheat, burn out, ect. An analog tester will need to be used to test the caps to see if they are faulty. Another sign is swelled up caps or burn marks on the power board. The power board is the little circuit board that the power cord is attached to.

We turn on our tv and it turns itself back off

its the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the tv there are few capacitors and IC.any of this ic is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.] This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. You’ll need to check the. X and Y sustain buffer boards. When either of these boards goes bad common problems include negative image, no image, vertical or horizontal stripes on picture, turns on and than turns off, and many more. You’ll need to open the back off the TV and check for any swollen/bulged/leaky capacitors on these boards and replace whichever has gone bad. If still the issue is not resolved, then please check the power supply board. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when switched off.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Sylvania model 8642PE,Plasma, if I

It sounds like you do have a faulty new lower buffer. Was it bought new, or was it bought as used?
The symptoms of a faulty buffer or broken screen ribbon are horizontal black bars. Check the ICs on the buffer for brown staining around their pins under the glue. Also check for pinholes on the tops of the Ics from internal thermal damage. When the buffer is in and tv switched on, carefully check the temperature of the lower buffer Ics using your finger tip. If the Ics in the lower buffer seem hotter than the top buffer, then the buffer is either faulty, or the screen is drawing too much curent from the buffers and is faulty.Make sure that the replacement buffer has identical numbers on it as the old buffer pcb.
