There is no sound.

Hello
The possibilities for this fault are many. The first one is the damaged speaker. Just place your ears very close to the speaker side of the TV and switch it ON by its main power ON/OFF switch, and listen whether there is any "thumb" sound can be heard from the speaker. If there is; the speaker is OK and audio output section circuits in your TV has the trouble. The output IC and it surround components should be checked. As the set was working with an other audio system, before you buy it, the audio filter section inside the TV is alright. If 'Mute" function is ON, there will be no sound. In your TV, this function may be ON, becuse the party whom you bought this set was using its audio out to feed his amplifier. Normally, thsy will activate the MUTE of the TV, to make it silent. Ask them whether they ahve done it. If so, you have to set the MUTE of OFF. In most Sylvania sets, this can't be done without a remote. OK.

I turn the tv on and seconds later it shuts off

You probably have a shorted horizontal out put transistor and your TV is going into high voltage shutdown mode. The horizontal is located by the fly back on a metal heat sink.

I have a sylvania 110 voltage and was used in a

Either you got lucky and just the few blew inside. Or worst case is the power inverter blew and will have to be replaced. You can test the inverter with a voltmeter. You can look at the glass bus fuse itself to see if it is bad or not.

You should try Funai codes ( and possibly Symphonic) as these are probably the manufacturer of that set.

Line across the tv no sound no picture

If you look carefully at teh line it should be red, green, and blue close together to appear like a white line. If this is the case, then the vertical circuit has failed. This is often poor solder connections at the vertical IC or a defective IC. Expect a parts cost in the $20 range for this repair.

Sylvania MTS/SAP tv/vcr/dvd combo turning itself off

could be that either the dvd or the vcr are malfunctioning, usually it is the vcr that creates the problem. If you turn tv on and set vol to low see if you can hear the noise of the motor loading or trying to load, with out a tape inside. It may be a good idea to have a qualified tech repair it, these units are difficult to work on and further problems may come up if you are not familiar with the tv.

Dvd tray is stuck and will not open

On most models, there is a small hole on the side of the tray. If you straighten out a paper clip and stick one end into this hole and push, it should manually open the tray.

Dvd player will not play dvd

I don't know the age of this DVD drive, nor how often it has been used, but the drive may be at the end of it's 'Life Cycle'. All mechanical devices for a computer have a rating of so may hours of usage.

It could be just something simple though. It may be that the optical eye inside your DVD drive is just dirty, and cannot read DVD's anymore. My solution for this, is to just buy a can of compressed air for computers, and blow the inside of the DVD drive out.

Computer on, open the tray for the DVD drive. Now shut the computer off normally. The dvd drive tray should stay open. Unplug the computer from the surge protector.
Break the plastic lock tab, off of the top of the can of air. This lock tab is put there to prevent depressing the trigger during shipping.
Insert the plastic 'straw' provided with the can of air, into the nozzle.

Try to hold the can of air in a vertical position, as you are using it. (Do Not shake the can) This is not always possible, and it is my contention, that if you are doing a good job, inevitably you will tilt the can along the way. You may see what looks like moisture, coming out of the can if you tilt it. This is okay!
What you are seeing is the propellant for the can of air. The stuff that pushes the air out of the can.

You can stick the straw into your DVD drive opening. Depth is up to you. I advise aiming at the top/backside, and spray your way towards the front. Start from either the left or right side, and go across. Make rows as you move towards the front.

Now go towards the bottom side. This side is your most concern. The optical eye is located on the bottom. You won't be able to view it though. Start at the back/bottom, and making rows again, work your way towards the front.

As you go along with the can of air, you may notice the pressure drops. This is because the air is coming out so fast, that the moisture in the outside air freezes. The straw and nozzle freezes up. You may notice frost on the outside top of the can.

Let the can of air sit for a few minutes. The can will warm up, and you'll be able to use it again.

When you are satisfied the inside of your DVD drive is clean, let the tray set open for a few minutes.
Ten minutes or so, should be okay Sometimes the frozen moisture, and/or propellant, will linger inside the drive. It should dry out within that ten minute span.

If you are satisfied that the inside of the DVD drive is dry, plug your computer back into the surge protector. Wait One minute. Turn the computer on.

You can buy an adaptor (Large to Small) at any good Electrical store.
Take the jacks with you so they are sure what you require.
The adaptors are not very expensive at all.

Best wishes.

TV is coming up in blue and green.

If some areas of the screen are blue and green while other areas are normal, then either the picture tube has been heavily magnetized or damaged by falling over. If there is any kind of magnetic field near the set, such as a large stereo speaker or elecrtic motor, move them away from each other, unplug the TV and let it sit for an hour or so, plug it in and turn it on. The TV demagnetizes the picture tube with each cold start. If the colors are still off then it may need a stronger external demagnetizer, but if the tube was damaged by shock then it cannot be fixed.
