Uniden bearcat bc895xlt display shows orange

The controller in the unit has probably lost its "brains" and needs to be reset. If there is no way to do a reset with the unit powered on, then remove ANY/ALL batteries and unplug it from the AC line. Let it sit for a few minutes before powering it on again.

Why cant i put in 160 to 161 into my scanner

Your radio has been made with certain frequencies not available due to FCC rules the MHz Outdoor Intrusion Detectors 160 - 176 Railroad 160 to 161
are likely reserved for the above services and may not be available to be scanned by your radio and there is nothing you can do about it as all radios are controlled by the FCC rules. It is possible that the manual for your radio will give you the information to unlock the frequencies if they have been previously locked out. These are the only 2 things that I can think of as to why you cannot scan those frequencies.

Back light is out

This is old info for an old scanner, so parts availability and price may vary.

The display backlight consists of four incandescent lamps with orange sleeves on the bulbs. Uniden sells the lamps with sleeves for $1.35 each, part # BPZY0036001. To order parts call 1-800-5297-1023.

To replace the lamps take 5 screws off the top scanner cover (2 on each side and 1 on the back) then lift up the cover from the back first and then detach it at the front. The speaker and wire will
still be attached to the scanner so you will have to gently pull the speaker wire plug out of the circuit board and set the top cover aside. Then looking inside the scanner towards the display you will
see 4 round white plastic pieces with a slot in them. These are the back of lamp sockets. Turn the slot in each one counterclockwise about 1/8 to 1/4 turn until it stops and get a small needle nose pliers and pull it straight out towards you. Some will come right out
and some are a little stubborn and need to be wiggled out. I always replace all 4 while I have it apart. Put in the new ones and turn each one 1/8 to 1/4 turn clockwise. Make sure the slots on all of them are horizontal. Don't forget to plug your speaker wire back in before you put the cover back on.

Radio Shack 272-1092 micro lamps
Also referred to as #7219 lamp which is 12 volts dc 60ma wire terminal base. NOTE: The RS bulbs are 12v vs the original 8v bulbs, so the light will be dimmer if you use the RS parts.

It quit scanning stay on one channel

You probably locked out all the banks. Look at the top of the display, you should see numbers from 1 to 10. If you don't, press 'scan', then press each key that corresponds to any missing numbers (I'm guessing that all but the number '1' are missing). As you press each key the number will reappear at the top of the display.

MEMORY QUESTION

This problem is caused by failure of the lithium memory battery #2032. To replace same remove top and bottom covers.Use a small pair of pliers or curved hemostats to hold the bottom of the speaker connection socket to the board as you unplug the connector. If it is not done you run the risk of loosening the socket from the circuit board. Carefully unplug the ribbon cables that connect the front panel to the main circuit board. You may leave the rest of the attached wires alone as they are long enough to permit service without removal. Remove two screws from each side of the front main frame and the single screw securing the main circuit board to the front panel board. Gently bow the front of the main frame sides inward to permit detachment of the front panel. On the bottom front of the front panel is a small flat battery soldered to the front circuit board on flat standoff legs. I do not know if this radio has fet components that could be damaged by static electricity but to be on the safe side I used a pencil soldering iron that was grounded to the frame to remove the legs and battery from the circuit board. Note the polarity of the battery before removal. The little standoff legs are spot welded to the battery. They may be either gently peeled off with small pliers or you may use a dremel tool with the cutting wheel to grind out the welds to the battery along the long axis of the legs. This last method does not deform the legs like the first method. Tin the insides of the legs where they were welded to the battery. Prepare the new CR 2032 lithium battery by sanding or scraping the surface where the legs will be reattached, then tin it also. With rosin core solder reattach the legs to the new battery. Try to avoid heating the battery more than necessary to get a good solder joint. The top side when completed should be the + side. Note the circuit board has the location for the + lead. Re-solder to board from the component side of the board. Reattach the front panel to the main frame with the ribbon cables on the correct side of the board. Carefully plug the ribbon cables back in, taking care they are fully seated in their sockets. Replace the bottom panel. Plug the speaker plug back into its socket, again grasping the socket gently with pliers to prevent loosening from board. Replace all screws and you should now be able to unplug the radio without lose of memory. I did leave the 13.6 volt dc supply connected the the radio during service as I was not sure if the total loss of memory voltage would damage the internal scanning program. Good Luck. Its not as complicated as it sounds if you have the right tools and some electronic experience.
