Uniden BC796D Base Scanner Questions & Answers
Comunication error with 796d and
- This happens a lot to people just setting up a scanner like this. Try these suggestions, I think you'll be up and running in no time.
- You have to make sure the BAUD rate is set and make sure your PC control is turned on in your scanner. A BAUD is the rate per second data is sent.. A BAUD rate of 38400 (or what ever BAUD the software is at). I think parts 3,4 and 5 in the your scanner menu cover this. If you have the FIFO buffer set then remove it from your settings > control panel > comm ports. You will get the best results if you have that software read the bank before writing to it. Relabel your comm port settings if you need to as well ie. port 1, port 2 etc.

How do i program a
Just program a p-25 apco into a regular channel of your scanner... in your conventional scan mode...Just go to a certin channel of your scanner and program it in and it will automatically come in the APCO -P25...I have one of these scanners....ITs a wicked scanner...a good one...

it could be that your telescopic antenna that you got with your scanner could be Bad try putting another antenna on it. or try an outside base scanner antenna....

Setting DELAY for All Search Ranges
You can set the scanner to have a delay after the end of a transmission before searching
resumes. This slows searching, but helps you prevent missing replies on a frequency.
1:SERVICE OPTION → :CHAIN SEARCH → 3:DELAY
1:NONE
The delay is turned off.
2:1 SECOND
The delay time is 1 second.
3:2 SECONDS
The delay time is 2 seconds.
4:4 SECONDS
The delay time is 4 seconds.

5:INFINITE
When the scanner stops on a transmission, you must press RSM to resume
searching.
6: -2 SECONDS
The scanner only stops on transmissions for 2 seconds, then automatically
resumes. To hold on the transmission, press /HOLD during the 2-second pause.
7: -5 SECONDS
The scanner only stops on transmissions for 5 seconds, then automatically
resumes. To hold on the transmission, press /HOLD during the 5-second pause.
8: -10 SECONDS
The scanner only stops on transmissions for 10 seconds, then automatically
resumes. To hold on the transmission, press /HOLD during the 10-second pause.

Try tuning known frequencies, such as the NOAA weather channels, to verify the working condition of your scanner. If it picks them up, you don't have your local police system/frequencies programmed properly. If there's no reception, even on NOAA, you have an antenna or receiver problem that may need professional attention.
