Wharfdale sw150 subwoofer ticks then pops

It should go into standby mode when you shut the rest of your system down. The led on the back is supposed to be green when in use and red when on standby. I believe yours should have the "auto on" switch on the back. If you are manually shutting the sub off make sure it is the 1st thing you power down. It should not pop then. As much volume as it puts out you could damage the speaker if you do anything to cause a pop. If it pops while watching a movie or with music, check connections. I believe the manual says left input is the recommended one.

How to hookup

hi,
if u want to hook up the sub with ur av receiver the connect the sub woofer output of ur AVR to any one (left or right) input of ur sub woofer. then connect its power . set the frequency range between 90 and 120Hz. set the volume of sub woofer to 40% of its total. also check the av receives speaker setting. goto speaker setup and make ON the sub woofer out.

if want to connect the sub to a stereo amp without sub out. then connect the amps speaker line to the speaker input of sub woofer and connect the speaker out of sub to left and right speaker ( make sure to connect the red to red and black to black). set the volume and frequency as above
ok

Hello
You just test your subwoofer first. For that disconnect the subwoofers' RCA cable from AV receiver then power on subwoofer, adjust the volume of the subwoofer to 20% of its total volume, if there is an auto power On\ off switch behind the subwoofer, make it off, and touch the main core of the RCA cable with your finger and listen whether there is a HUM sound or not. If there is no HUM sound, that indicates your subwoofer has some fault inside it.

If there is HUM sound, it is working, and proceed.
Press menu button on your AVRs remote control. Surf for speaker setup. Then to speaker confuguration. Note the status of the subwoofer. If it is Off, make it On.
If you need any more assistance, feel free to contact me through Fixya.
Ok

My subwoofer makes a very loud shreaking sound

Did they charge you much for that 'fix'?

Though it may have become damaged in the original problem, the driver won't make loud sounds by itself in the absence of a signal. The internal amp is probably malfunctioning and it is very capable of destroying its own driver. Don't let it continue when it starts acting up.

Did it work correctly for more than 5 minutes after the driver replacement? Take it back and make them do it right this time.

I had a powered sub amp problem that the local guy couldn't fix so I just disconnected it and wired the driver directly out to a separate amp. Works fine as a passive sub.

Hiya, try a different input cable (from amp to sub) if you have make sure that is ok.

Failing that if there is an earth in the plug, try to disconnect that (earth loop) - unlikely but hey electronics.... anything possible :)

If still there with new cable, earth off etc, then the Yamaha could have a problem but find that difficult to swallow...

Let me know if helps, see any other possibilty
Best of luck

Wharfedale PowerCube PC-12 Subwoofer Problem

ok , what your going to need to do is give me the numbers on the amp IC's , and i will see if they are available , but first you will need to see if the pre amp transistor is failing , to do this leave the power off and unplug from the wall then with a digital multi meter on diode check , check to see if the emitter to base reads about 680- 700 , if it does then its ok but i would replace that anyway because it could be the reason the amp is not amplifying correctly , sometimes they don't act up untill power is applied , then also replace any resistors in line with the input line that do not read thier values( if you need help identifing them let me know and i upoad the codes for them) and also the electrolitic capacitors on the transistor line to the amp
once you have completed these steps let me know if there is a change
you can cross reference you transistor here also maybe the power amp http://www.nteinc.com/

Wharfdale PC 10 subwoofer

Some basic trouble shooting is required here. First you need to see if it is a problem from your source or the sub. Try a different source to the sub-woofer and see if it changes the response. If still nothing on the sub, then most likely there is an issue with the amp or driver. Check to see if there is a fuse on the sub, if so, it could be blown. There could also be an issue with the auto switching circuit on the subs amp, in that case, it would need to be repaired in the shop. But before that I would check all of the connections to the sub, and also to the driver in the cabinet. If everything looks good, then put some type of source directly to the woofer to see if it works, if you get sound, then looks like the amp has a problem. Again a repair or replace issue.

Wharfedale Subwoofer problem

Take it to the shop from where you purchased it or try to web to get further information on their service outlets in your part of thw world. The problem is not a formidable one. It seems the IC in the Subwoofer and would not take more than half an hour to solve the problem. If it is under warranty get it replaced as well as the cables. Do not try to repair this yourself unless you know something about speakers and sound systems.
