I need a driver
Do you REALLY need a driver?
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa (

Battery cover clips broken
I had the same problem with mine, sent mine to Fuji for repair.
Unfortunately they no longer have parts for this model, 8-(. I simply had to resort to using tape to keep the cover closed.

No picture taken when shutter release is pressed
if you see no reation of the pressing of the button i.e. no focusing, no error message nothing , then most probably a simplest problem , the shutter release button may not be working for few reasons :
1) defective switch.
2) defective flex cable.
3) camera exposed to some physical jerk or dropping resulting into disalingment between inner switch and the shutter release button.
The flap for the battery
the problem could be the door or the body. If its the door, I can order a new one for you. Come into the store for installation or install yourself.

I downloaded a PDF manual for your camera to make sure what I was about to say was indeed correct. My first impression/thought about this problem is that your camera Firmware is not capable of that size a memory card. I looked into the card capacity and according to the PDF manual you camera takes an XD - Picture card the capacity on the original Firmware is for 512mb here is a chart.
XD Card Max covers the S5100 and S5500 models
You may be able to go onto the Fujifilm web site and actually update your firmware.
Another thing that came to mind is that these cameras are often "clock" dependent and if the camera batteries have been removed for some time the clock date and time may also be giving an error. However my first impression is that the memory card is to large in capacity.
Turned my fuji finepix camera on today and the
The iris may have stuck closed due to moisture or the CCD may be bad. Let it dry out for about a day if the iris is stuck. If you still can't get an image, then more likely the CCD is bad - take it in for repair.
My daughter needs to do
I have not done this but it sounds like a great project. I downloaded the manual for this camera. On page 37 it tells how to set the dial to Manual M. Set the exposure for many seconds, say 10 seconds and the exposure to f11 (I am just guessing - it depends on how dark the room is). Set the camera on a tripod or table facing a dark place at night. click the shutter and move a flashlight, a stick of fireworks, a match around in the dark to 'draw with light' in space in front of the camera. check the resulting photo.
