I had the same problem & had to purchase a seperate RF Modulator for $18.
But I still have a problem & can't record TV shows onto a VHS tape, possibly
due to my older TV.

The unit will need to be disassembled, in some cases you might find a pin hole in front of the tray. Take a fine screwdriver or a needle and push in until you hear a click, the door should pop open. If that option in not available, remove the top lid of the machine, go to the dvd sector and carefully remove the dvd top, that should expose the disc for removal.

Since it is a dual DVD/Video player is the Video selected as active? You should have a button switching between DVD and Video!

Is there a crack in the disk ?

Check DVD for faults like scratches or smears on disc, clean with appropriate solution and cloth. Red.

Just look at the power chord, whether it has been pluged into the slot well. Check the wall power socket also for presence of power. Replug it to an other power plug point. Till the problem perists, surely there must be some fault with its power regulator board inside. Normally, if power regulator board gets power, the power indicator must light up. If not power regulator board [SMPS] board is faulty, and should be replaced with same type and number. OK.
