My dvd drive wont play all dvds

There are two things, the file format of a disk, DVD,MP4, WMP.

Depends on what format, depends on whether windows media player can read it.

Im guessing you only have windows media player.

There is also a country code, some are set to another country, but this is probably not the issue.

You can open the disk, that i, when you have the disk in, go to my computer, you will see the dvd drive, could be drive letter (D)

you right click on the drive and in the little window you will see
auto play, open, explore, share, and so on.

You can either open or explore, you can copy the files to a folder on your computer, then use a converter to change them to WMA WMV,

You can go to google.com and search free dvd converter, and you will see a few.

Here is one that is safe.

My cd drive on my compaq desktop plays cd's fine

You can only play CDs on a CD drive. In order to play DVDs you need a DVD drive. A DVD drive can play both CDs & DVDs.

Hope this info helped you. Good Luck! :-)

Do this model have a 5.1 audio

After retrieving the PDF documents from the manufacturer's web-site:

http://www.emachines.com/support/

the answer is "no, all you get is stereo".

Of course, you could add-in a PCI audio-card, and disable the built-in audio, and get 5.1 output.

The computer screen is blank

Looks like a Virus infection. Did you try starting the PC in Safemode(with networking)?Reboot the computer and keep pressing F8 till you see the advanced startup options. Select Safemode with networking and press enter. See if the PC works. If it does please post back and I will guide you with the malware removal process. If it doesn't start in safe mode as well, then you will have to reinstall your Operating System.

Let me know what happened so that we can proceed further,
Sai.

My dvd drive dosen'tplaying dvd but plays cd and dosen't write

First thing is to clean the drive using a CD or DVD cleaning disc.

I had similar issues. I assume that you are a VISTA user. If so check to see if you have the following update on your system

KB970236

If so then:

1. Uninstall it as it prevents many peripherals including CD / DVD Drives, Sound Cards etc form working correctly.
2. Reboot the PC.
3. Download and reinstall the CD/DVD driver directly from your mfr support website.

4. Reboot the PC and all should be well.

5. If not then look at Start - Control Panel – Device manager – Storage - DVD Drive to see if there are any issues regarding the DVD device and driver. If this is the case then you will need to uninstall the driver, reboot the PC and then reinstall the DVD driver and all should be well.

If not or you are not a Vista user then carryout steps 3 to 5 above.

Can't open the second cd rom drawer

Does the light flash when you press the button? If so, was there a disk in the drive previously? There is a small hole on the front of the unit. With power off, get a paper clip and open it up halfway. Push the open end into this hole and the drawer should pop open by about half an inch. This will be enough for you to gently pull the drive open and remove anything stuck inside. Ian.

How to reformat without loosing wanted data??

best way to do this would be one of two options.

First copy all your wanted data onto a CD / DVD (DVD RW best) and then once you've reformated your pc copy them back onto your desktop

The next option would be to buy an external harddrive. These are great because you can just move all the data you want back and force between your computer and external harddrive. This might be your best choice but it is a bit more costly

Cpu upgrade

Hi Keith... here is all I could find on this machine, I assume this is how yours is set up. Component details are almost impossible to get on E-machine units, they just do not provide them.
  • Processor Intel Celeron D 356 / 3.33 GHz
  • Memory 512.0 MB / 2.0 GB (max)
  • Hard Drive 120.0 GB - 7200.0 rpm
  • Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista
First, you want to check to see if your proc even can be changed; many of E-machine procs are permanently attached to the motherboard and cannot be removed; this is the cheapest way to manufacture a computer, and E-machines is bottom of the line quality computer (no insult intended, just fact). Since I don't know what CPU socket the T3604 has I can't tell you if the Intel CPU would fit it. Next, I don't know what the Northbridge is running at; if it is less than 1066 there will be a bottleneck and there is no significant gain. At this point, I suggest that you not spend a lot of money on this, better to save and build your own computer. If you are a hardcore gamer looking for high framerates you really don't want this machine. Better to load in more RAM if you have no other options. Here is something I ran across: http://www.overclock.net/t/763634/what-to-upgrade-emachines-t3604 If I had the above details I could give you an answer.
