Olympus Camedia D-520 Zoom Digital Camera Questions & Answers
Batteries are good. Card error
Is it only with card inserted?Sometimes cards can become corrupted and give such readings.Try another card.If the card is defective and you have photos on it which are important there are services which can save them. One last try, if card does not read. Take an eraser and "gently" rub once in the direction of each segment from the inside to out. This may remove the oils of fingers and give a good contact again. Make sure there are no rubber particles left on the card before inserting.
Lens retracts when shutter is pressed
With battery and memory card removed. Is there a hidden reset button on this camera? Some electronic devices can be reset so the everything works properly again. It could be a simple paperclip size hole where a paperclip is inserted and is gently pressed in a few times. Make sure the battery is in top-notch condition. If it was me and I gave it the "last try" (nothing ventured nothing gained) I would reverse battery connection just for an instant.I can't take responsibility here and anything you try may hurt the camera.

Lens not Extending
this problem is caused because that the lens servo can`t move the unit of lens. this menssage mean that the sistem don't go out the lens.
You have to sincronise the mechanism of the lens, carefully disarm the unit and review that the gears are ok.
Weird problem. Camedia d-520 doesn't turn on. Blinks and Beeps.
I'm having the same problem with mine. Happens on rechargeables or brand new standard batteries as well. Very frustrating. I can't take more than 2 videos in a row without the dreaded orange/green lights flashing (low battery warning). Leaving it for 10-20 minutes and it works again, with the battery charge showing full.
Exposure and flash problems
I assume your camera is the Olympus D520.
This camera gives you very little control of the flash. The only thing available to you is the ability to change the Exposure compensation.
I would experiment with raising the exposure compensation adjustment a few steps. This may or may not help.
What you describe is quite common. The flash distance on small cameras is usually only about 10 to 12 feet and past that distance, it quickly falls into blackness.
Some cameras have Slow Synchronizing which lets the lens stay open a bit longer past the flash. This adds light to the background. You might check the manual and see if your camera has that feature.
Pixel Mapping feature
Press the up and down arrows on the jog dial and push the slide cover to the open position at the same time. Then press the up arrow on the jog dial to highlight “START” in the menu that appears on the LCD monitor. Press the “OK” button. The word “BUSY” and a progress bar will briefly appear on the LCD monitor. Once it disappears, the pixel mapping procedure has been completed.
