My philips magnavox tv will not pick up cable even

what is your cable provider? they are the ones to contact with this issue. you are paying for cable service and you should have them come and make sure the signal is strong enough for you to get a pure and clean signal. If you have another source for your tv signal you didn't mention it in your question

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, greenish, or blueish or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

The Squeaky sound in a CRT rear projection tv is caused by a faulty high-voltage circuit. The components that can cause this are damaged flyback(most likely case) and/or deflection circuit. How good are your electronics/soldering circuits? Its not a good idea to fiddle with a circuit that generates 30,000V . So I would like to verify whether you have prior experience in working on electronic circuits before I tell you what to do

51MP392H/17 Makes Zapping sound on power up. No

The Zapping sound you are referring to is most likely due to arcing of the flyback(high voltage transformer). It is strongly recommended that you do not turn on the tv and have a tech test the flyback and replace it. The FBT generates voltages of about 30000V and should not be handled by someone who has not worked on high voltage electronics before.

My rear projection tv 51MP392H/17 has a blurred

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. It still can be repaired.
Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section. Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence. You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight. If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem. Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix Reply

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a technician or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from TvRepairKits.com Their kits include a step by step instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc. Thanks! hope you rate my response
