use the tv av button on your remote it is a square with an arrow going into it

Do the channels show up as 4.1 or 4-1 (with a dash? or period?) then it IS digital!

You should have instructions that came with your new remote that show you how to program specific buttons to specific functions. In general there is a similar button on universal remotes, it may be called input or some other button that implies changing the video source.

You need to go into the menu and set it for cable insted of air/tv. The television is only getting the 2 - 13 because on that setting, its as high as it goes.

Sounds like you have bad solder joints on the vertical ic which should be numbered IC501 on the board.also there are capastors that coud be going bad but i would look for bad solder joints on ic frist.
The capastors numbers on board are C502 / C516 also need to check R 483 which is a resistor.
resolder the ic if you know how to solder. That is a comon problem a lot of tvs out there have. The only thing is the tv has high voltage on it even if it is unpluged from the wall. Some of the capastors hold there voltage for a long time. Be sure and unplug tv before you try anything if you are going to do it yourself and stay away from the capastor in the AC line should be marked 200 V or moor.

Quick fix - Should be an "Input" button on the TV itself that can be used to switch between inputs. Depending on model of TV, this may also be done by going to channel 3 then going down to see if it cycles through inputs.

Other than that, may want to try another universal remote that has a "TV Input" button on it.

Check your TV's closed-caption settings. You'll likely find it's set for TEXT mode. Turn off captions or set for CC1 or CAPTION 1 if you want to use the captions. Your trouble is due to the set blanking out a block on the screen where the text should go, but there isn't any text to display. Most TV remotes have a single button for caption control, so it's easy to get into text mode without knowing it. Then on channels where captions are being broadcast you'll see the box. On other channels or programs you don't see it.

On the Sanyo remote there is a button TV/VCR. Press that button

This TV doesn't have channel labeling. You'll need to keep your cable channel card handy, sorry to say.
