Sanyo DWM400 DVD Player Questions & Answers
Says "No Disc"
If you have put a dvd disk in your dvd player, and it says "no disc" then try cleaning it with a dvd cleaning disk. It could be that the eye of your dvd player is dirty. You can get a dvd cleaner at any department store.
If you have put a dvd disk in your dvd player and its a home made or "burnt" disk and your player says "no disc", it usually means that the disk is the wrong format to be played on your dvd player. Try another disk.
If you have not put any disk in your dvd player, and it says "no disc" its just telling you that there is no dvd inserted for it to play.
I have a Sanyo DWM-400
Might have a loose or broken plastic parts or a spinning motor is missing the gears of the machine device.Tries take the device hold it tight lift it over ur head shakes it a few times. That the easiest way to fixed grinding noises.
How do u hook up
If you have HD TV it is best to hook up the DVD player separately.
The easiest way to connect your DVD player with your TV, is to find the cable going from the receiver to the TV and disconnect it from the TV.
Connect this cable to the back of the DVD player where it says "in" or "input".
Next take another cable and connect it from the DVD player output to the TV. Once you've done this make sure your TV set is tuned to the proper input or source. Your DVD's should play when the receiver is off, however, you'll probably need your DVD player on to get the DISH signal.

I put DVD in player. It will spin but won't read
Dear mgunwall, If dust particles are sticking to the DVD surface, use a piece of soft cloth to wipe off the dust. To hold the DVD, insert a finger or thumb inside the center hole of the DVD or handle it by the edges but never touch the shiny surface.
If the DVD surface feels sticky or greasy, mix some baby shampoo in lukewarm water and use cotton or soft cloth to gently rub the DVD surface with this solution. Make sure the DVD is completely dry (no water drops) before putting it back in the player.
If you notice a scratch on the surface of a CD or DVD, I would suggest that you immediately make a copy of the disc (if it's not copyrighted).
If none of the above work, try cleaning the lens of the DVD player by using a CD laser lens clear CD like this: http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/images/ha/hama-cd-and-dvd-laser-lens-cleaning-disc--ref-11434.jpg
Good luck!
Disk drawer does not open
Hi.
Try disconnecting power. Connect back and then turn the DVD on by using the button in the player (not the remote) while at the same time you keep pressing repeatedly the eject button on the player. You will need to keep pressing eject until the unit start loading the disk.
If that does not work, then the DVD must be disassembled undoing the screws holding the top cover in the chassis.Once disassembled there is usually a disk stuck inside the drive or a mechanical issue. The disk tray motor rarely fails.
Here the service manual showing disassembling and repair procedures:

The disk drawer will not open
The processor is locked up in it and if you unplug the unit from the wall for 40Min., it will reset back to normal.
The disk drawer does not open
Try pressing repeatedly the eject button while you turn on the unit. If it does not work
then it is a mechanically problem in your player.
You need to open the dvd player manually .
The rubber thread which should be connected to the motor inside the DVD player might have moved from its place.
You need to place the rubber thread to proper place.
If you still face the problem then you need to replace spindle motor.
Hope this helps.

Its probably becouse the laser that reads the DVD is dirty or damaged. I had the same problem with my DVD player. I bought a DVD laser cleaning disc ( it looks just like s DVD movie, but has a little brush on it), played the disc and the problem was gone.
