You don't, it sets itself from radio signals transmitted by NIST.
Depending on reception conditions it may take a few days (sometimes in really bad cases a few weeks) to get good enough signal to set itself with.
I just checked online you will need to remove the screws from the back which should allow entry to cd player. It sounds to me like you need to put small amount of lubricant on the trays release slides. They should in theory be quite obvious once you open system up. Something like wd40 spray should surfice.
Since most Japanese companies use same/similar set ups, er-md41 is likely to be the same code on several machines, through research I've found that it likely to be dust on the lens.
unless you are familiar with cleaning MD's, I do not suggest that you clean it yourself.
