Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
•Screen looks 3D
•Colors don't line up
•One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
•Screen is bowed or warped.
•TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.

always first unplug set and let sit 10 to 20 minutes to reset micro prossessor. if that don't help then you need to have an electronic technition determine if your problem is caused by high voltage devider or low voltage power supply. J.D.W.

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

This unit has a problem in the pincushion correction circuit. These sets are famous for loose solder connections causing this problem. The Deflection PCB will have to be removed to repair this. You may want to contact a repair shop to help you out. Thanks

I have looked through most of the answers to the same problem question and found my answer. I thank you very much for your site for the free info as the cost could have been huge to fix it. Now that I no the part the cost is minimal, and I can do it myself(with a little help from my friends).

There is a capacitor that started out with a bad solder conection and is now burning the board. This capacitor should be replaced.

replacing the fly-back itself is not enough. you need to check the components surrounding the transformer, whether the fet isn't shorted and the diode is ok.

Its not a problem you can easily fix. Many Mits TVs of the mid-90's had a PIP board in them that had dried up surface mount capacitors on them. The board would have to be either re-built or replaced at a considerable cost.

Try replacing CP150, CP114 and CP120 first cost about 12.00 with free instructions available at the following link under the RCA parts category

If the convergence is out on that set you most likely do not need to make an adjustment the circuit will need to be repaired. There is a stk on the convergence amp board that needs to be replaced. A good tv shop will run you somewhere between $300-$500 to do the repair

the transister is a bad one...

Horizontal Output transistor looks like this attached to a heat sink near the Flyback transformer

it needs horizontal supply repaired and all will be well....

Unplug the set wait five minutes then try again go to menu where closed caption is............

Try to check the power supply output side where anything could came into contact with positive and negative line for which when you press play button then it shuts down.

RCA video cables handle analog signals. HDMI cables carry digital video signals. You need a converter. If you are using a component video converter, check if you swapped two of the three RCA video cables. (There are some A/V projectors that can do the translation of RCA and HDMI internally. Most TVs do not.) I hope this helps. Cindy Wells (One of my family's TVs used a dongle to condense the analog video signal to a single port, swapping blue and green gave a black and white output, IIRC.)

Most modern tv remotes are not normally designed to be repaired. You will possibly need to replace it. there are plenty of cheaper after market version that will do the job just as well. Your other option, and yes I know this is a silly answer, when you want to mute the TV is to simply press the volume down button to zero then turn it back up when you want sound.
