TV wont turn on
Sony has provided a "self-diagnosis function" with your TV, that in the case of abnormalities or problems the LED or red blinking light on the Timer/Standby indicator flashes a number of times to indicate the issue. Here are the values of the various blinks.
- 0 times, Diagnosis: Power does not turn on. Possible causes include: Power cord is not plugged in, Fuse is burned out (F6001) (G board). Symptoms of the problem: Power does not come on, No power is supplied to the unit, AC power supply is faulty.
- 2 times, Diagnosis: B overcurrent (OCP). Possible causes: H. OUT (Q8024) is shorted. (D board), +B PWM (Q8035, 8038) is shorted. (D board) Symptoms of the problem: Power does not come on, Load on power line is shorted.
- 3 times, Diagnosis: +B overvoltage (OVP). Possible causes: IC501 is faulty (G board), IC5002 is faulty (G board). Symptoms of the problem: TV has entered standby mode.
- 4 times, Diagnosis: Vertical deflection stopped. Possible causes: +- 15V is not supplied. (D board), IC8003 is faulty. (A board)Symptoms of the problem: TV has entered standby state after horizontal raster, Vertical deflection pulse is stopped, Power line is shorted or power supply is stopped.
- 5 times, Diagnosis: White balance failure (Not balanced) Possible causes: Video out (IC7101, 7201, 7301) is faulty (CR, CG, CB board), CRT drive (IC309) is faulty (A board), G2 is improperly adjusted. Symptoms of the problem: No raster is generated, CRT cathode current detection reference pulse output is small.
- 6 times, Diagnosis: LOW B OCP/OVP (Overcurrent/over voltage). Possible causes: +5 line is overloaded. (A, B boards), +5 line is shorted. (A, B boards). Symptoms of the problem: No picture.
- 7 times, Diagnosis: Horizontal deflection stopped. Possible cause: Q8035, 8038 is shorted. (D board)
- 8 times, Diagnosis: High voltage error. Possible cause: T8005 is faulty. (D board)
- 9 times, Diagnosis: Audio error. Possible causes: +- 19V line is shorted. (A, B boards), IC708 is faulty. (A board), PS701 or PS702 is opened. (A board). Symptoms of the problem: No sound
No sound loud hum from one channel and no sound
The audio signal connection between the processor and the amplifier chip is loose or defective. You need to open the tv, follow the wires from the speakers to the amplifier board and then check all the others that plug in there. Fix or replace the faulty part.
Loud hum in one channel and sound is weak
The audio amplifier has its input partially shorted, because either the filtering capacitors are gone and will have to be replaced or the signal wire is not firmly plugged in. Open the tv, follow the wires from the speakers to the amplifier and there check the capacitors and the connections, including the solderings - use a magnifying glass.
Can I use a blue ray with my tv?
Blu-ray players can be connected and used with any Television that has at least Composite video inputs. But the only way to access the high def is through either a HDMI connection or your Component Video connections. You DO need an HD compatible TV to see any benefits of Blu-ray. Check the back of your TV your RCA model should have 1 set of the Syncroscan HD component input jacks and be sure the Blu-ray player has the component out jacks since they are being phased out.
Just be aware of the following:
As of January 1 2011, all Blu-ray players that reach the market will be Image Constraint Token enabled as per the industry AACS Adopter agreement. What this means is that new Blu-ray players will only be able to output high definition content over HDMI. Film studios will be able to embed an Image Constraint Token on their Blu-ray discs restricting the Blu-ray player from outputting the image in HD over an analog output, such as component. Instead, images will be sent over component will be constrained to a maximum resolution of 540p.
The move is part of a strategy that is designed to move consumers to digital-only connectivity so that by 2013 all analog outputs on Blu-ray players will be phased out. Studios have not been permitted to embed this technology into Blu-ray discs prior to December 31 2010, so discs purchased prior to this date will not have their image constrained. However, users will now need to look for the Image Constraint Token on the packaging of Blu-ray discs released after January 1 2011, if they still rely on component out for their Blu-ray player.
No power
If you're NOT still under warrantee you should at least open the TV and look for a blown fuse near where the power cable enters the set. A lot of times you can buy replacement fuses at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace.
Check the fuse. If it is blown, it will be obvious and make sure that the set is unplugged before replacing it. If it blows again, or if it is not blown, your problem is probably in the 'X' volt regulator and you will need professional help with the repairs.
You can also check the board where the components are mounted and resoled any that look bad. Brief power outages may cause the TV to turn off on its own. If you are using a surge protector, try connecting the set directly to the wall outlet.
In your case it could caused by a blown fuse, a leaky diodes or a bad solder joint at the horizontal drive transformer.
All can be replaced at a local electronic or hardware store and they're easy to replace
If this does not correct the problem, you may need to have your TV serviced.
good luck!
Cable for RCA Scenium HD65W20
how is the cable box hooked to the TV, coax, RCA cables what? my suggestion is you use RCA cables for video and sound to TV, hook these cables to the AUX or AV input of the TV, you no longer can use your TV's built in tuner, the cable box is now the tuner, so doing a channel search will not work, u set the TV to the specified input channel for a Coax cable or you use one of the line in inputs (prefered way for better picture) of your TV, the best ones to use as far as the TV goes are the inputs marked "AV" (audio/video), the bottom line here is the TGV's tuner is not what you use to change channels the cable/converter box is.
No picture and loud screeching on RCA Scenium 50" DLP
It sounds like it is the Color Wheel. I do not think you can get the Color Wheel separate from the Optical Engine like you can with Samsung. RCA is very tight with there parts like that. Because you have to get the whole
Engine Assy, cost would be too much in my opinion to invest into it. The part cost approx 800.00 the last time I checked on one.
Good Luck,
I Hope this helped,

Power surge, bad burning electrical smell
If there is burnt resisters then its best to take for repair to isolate the problem that caused it to burn up. If there is one then there could be more, but if you feel that that is the only one the you would have to take a soldering iron to take it out. To find right resister then there should be a number on it or color coded.
Issues with the big screen
This is essentially a convergence problem and will continue to get worse. If you can solder, try resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and should be marked STKxxx.
Keep us posted on your progress.
