On a 7876, you need to scan the sequence “17130” is to add 128 tag readability. Not too sure if the 7875 is the same.

You need another cable (the metrologic cable doesnt work with the same configuration) and set the button in the interface card to rs-232 and program the scanner-scale with the programing tags.

Firstly you will need NCR Scan Tags. You can download from

You will have to print out the Scan Tags which start at page 281 and you will also need the correct weights; 0kg, 2.5kg, 5kg and 10kg.

Then follow these steps and be sure to scan tags in correct order:

1. Reset
2. Default
3. Program mode
4. Hex 3
5. Hex 0
6. Hex 1
7. Push the calibrate button under weighing tray
8. Place the correct weights in order. It will ask for the weights in order.
9. Calibration complete

Hmmmm.... It sounds as though your scanner is not programmed correctly. Either RS232 or IBM... Either way it sounds as though it is not accepting your communication entry. Which could be your Eeprom chip, a digital board, maybe even the dual I/O board, in most cases.

Problem is with the scale part of theunit, it needs calibrating, you can do this but you do need a set of weights, and it also depends on what country you are in reference the legality after you have done this. But chack fist the top plate is OK not damaged and sits OK, press scale zero. If that does not work there is a cover at the front of the unit sometimes with a seal over it or through the part that stops the cover being shown. Press the button under thisand follow the audio instructions, you will need 2.5kg, 5kg & 10kg or 5lb, 15lb & 30lb depending on ncountry you may need Weights & Measures in to verify afterwords depending on legalities

Yes sir, I think NCR refers to them as "hex tags" but anyways one of the hex tags is labeled "Diagnostic" I think that is the one that will tell you the current settings. I found the tags on the manual for a different model (pages 282-296 on the pdf in the first link).
