sbg6580 or what? you failed to use real model. first off wired Ethernet is always faster.WAN (and the web actual) say wifi not wireless there are many wireless and wifi is but 1. there are 2 speeds, raw and real (throughput) latter is real. and is bits per second not BYTES. The 802.11a and 802.11g networks usually run no faster than 20 Mbps.. the answer is simple one or both wifi devices is slow either or both. the speed will based on the slowest one, called band width bottle-necking.. just like driving a car really , traffic and narrow roads are slower. or are gravel roads, see? so buy new wifi upgrades wifi 5 or 6, , 802.11AC or AX yours is old and slow and more money always buys faster cars or better roads or wifi. speed costs and is not free. read here first but gee upgrades are the answer. but no hardware told yet now just the modem/router your SB Wi-Fi N300 2.4Ghz + N300 5GHz Dual Band Router. The IEEE 802.11 Standard on Wireless LANs (Revision B, Revision G, and Revision N so if he PC is not N or is not dual bad it can not do N speeds or is B or G speed now) 100 Mbps is max speed on "N" 11N and must be close to the router and both bands enabled on both ends and no huge traffic on those bands in your home or IOT there or in the hood (crowded apartments omg bad) your router is not junk, but most old PCs are unless upgraded. and lots of IOT things are 1 band and slow. no brink or concrete walls from PC to router. wifi is radio and does not link dense obstruction LINE OF SIGHT.

I have a Motorola SURFboard

last man running XP the virus magnet , oops???? no future there. no PC told no wifi card model told. and what 2wire means I guess 2 antenna wires sure. SBG6580 this is cable mode + router both in one, AIO +wifi 'N" grade step 1; the PC works great i wired mode ethernet to rear of surfboard no, then the modem is failing call the ISP. yes, wired works so now comes pesky love/hate wifi next. 1billion posts on the web, pain. ... I can fix them all but is hard work. rule one in this regard, NO PC told but WPA (1) must be enaBled the router side. of surfboard. I have all mine set to wpa2/3. (wep and wpa1 blocked) as did yours new, wpa1 is off. but you do as you want if old things in the home that only do wpa1. then what you set. the SSID and PW are both , case sensitive. worse yet some characters are not allowed either end. page 24 in your manual states, RTM amazing what is there, behold. WPA2-PSK is automatically set as the default page 47 shows, and do pick it there inside the router this Select one of the following wireless network security options for your wireless network from the Wireless Security drop-down list: WPA: Wi-Fi Protected Access WPA-PSK: Wi-Fi Protected Access with Pre-Shared Key, standard encryption WPA2: Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2 with Pre-Shared Key, standard encryption with the AES encryption type WPA2-PSK: Wi-Fi Protected Access version 2 with Pre-Shared Key (recommended) 8.Choose the wireless network encryption type in the Encryption field: AES- Advanced Encryption Standard: Provides the strongest encryption (recommended) AES+TKIP- Advanced Encryption Standard and Temporal Key Integrity Protocol: Allows both AES and TKIP-capable clients to connect to your wireless network. just so you know, newer routers are like this,.today... and are way more secure too and less bugs. ! old bad, new good. ad_hoc or guess mode are gone forever WPS+ pin gone ,too, (now, new Netgear is preset ssd +pass ,NIB label on router shows this.fact. and WPS button GONE. WEP gone for ever, it is insecure max. wpa (fear growing) but may have it or just alone.aka wpa1. or show up as wpa1/2 then see WPA2/3, like mine, and wpa1 is single choice. what your PC and TV;s need and demand I can not guess. is using a PC learn what WPA it uses.(age of PC is the key) learn what other things in home use or need (IOT) yes some old things are wpa 1 only. no higher. then make your choices for sure all same and wpa2 if can. and then set the router to that. and use a PW that is only alpha- numeric and does not use dictionary words. or all upper or lower, mixed can be hard to learn here is me using lastpass, autogen example: only, use a one case SSID. 62D477H6XY the write it down using PAPER>

Wifi disabled on router

Sounds strange, unplug and plug it back in to see if you get lucky. If your sure there is nothing else preventing the wireless form being activated you might have to reset the router and hope that works. Good luck.

Firmware upgrade

The ISP is correct in telling you not owner upgradeable. Only because the upgrade is their property. The firmware is coded for their cable lines to distribute the power levels through the cable. If you're having intermittent disconnects, you should call them and ask for a LEVEL3 tech to come to check the cable connections from the "TAP" (which is where the cable comes to home), it's possibly needed to rewire the cable and splitters in your home

Apple products won't connect to network

May experience is that a lot of Apple products have problems with 5 Ghz wireless unless the conditions are near perfect. 5 Ghz has more difficulty penetrating things like walls than the older 2.4 Ghz. If during the setup you decided to disable the 2.4 Ghz, this could be the problem.

I have a SBG6580. I am trying to enter the security key but cannot find it on the back of the router...please help

I shall have to assume you in a 'Factory Reset' situation, where you have not signed into the modem, and changed username/password defaults, (new unit, fresh out of the box). Do not connect to the cable company yet. First, secure the modem..... From the User Manual, page 9..... You do have a User Manual? 1. Open a browser window, after connecting your computer. Use a 'wired' connection. Never change security settings, using Wi-Fi connection..... 2. Type in the IP address for the modem 192.168.0.1 in the URL address. That should take you to the modem's password change window. 3. Type in the default Username: admin. 4. Type in the default Password: motorola. 5. Type in your new username in the Password Change Username field. 6. Type in your new password in the New Password field. 7. Re-enter your new password 8. Re-type your new username in the Current Username Password field. 9. Click Apply. 10. Connect the modem to the cable company. You should shortly be able to go online, after the modem has synchronized to the cable company. That usually takes about a minute. Your question asks for the 'security key'. That generally refers to the Wi-Fi settings. If that is the case, go to the 192.168.0.1 address, sign-in, and click on Wireless. Follow the obvious directions.... Or, post here again....
