How come I don't get any sound from my RCA rt2500 audio receiver?

I've owned this receiver since the Summer 2001 and it worked well until the audio became intermittent several years later. Eventually, the unit was ON but all sound was dead. It turns out that there are solder joints that developed tiny solder breaks. These were found in the main power board on the large electrolytic capacitors and on the 7 power tab transistors that share a large square heat sink. Thermal cycling can cause microscopic solder joint breaks over years of use. After I re-soldered the broken joints the unit worked properly and is still in use in 2017. Consult a qualified electronics repair technician for the repair, which can be accessed via the removable panel on the bottom of the cabinet. Of course, be sure the unit is unplugged from AC power before starting your inspection and repair.

Receiver doesn't play sound until it's warmed up 5 - 10 minutes

Unfortunately, your question has too many variables. Try this. Unplug the unit. Plug it back in. When you first push the power button, you should immediately hear one mechanical click from the unit, followed by a second click with 5-10 seconds. If you don't hear the second click, the unit may have a condition known as DC Offset. It would be unusual to have DC Offset only within the first 5-10 minutes. It's possible that power supply has an issue where both the positive and negative voltages are not coming up at the same time. If you are interested in having your RCA repaired, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. You may contact me there. Thank you.

Can i hook up two 3 ohm subwoofers to the rt2500

Using 2 3ohm speakers in parallel is not advisable on this amp. 1.5ohms is too much of a load on the final. Use the speakers in series if your going to. (+) sp (-)(+) sp (-)

Lost my remote for my RCA RT2500 Audio/Video

You need to confirm if the power switch is working as the button is stuck . So it is best to get this part corrected before we move to the remote as the power switch or the button aligment can be corrected if you open to check the continuity.Next the remote controller must be checked for the IR outputs. please check this link below for tips to repair or find a link for a universal type remote.

Surround sound doesnt work. When

Back up, open the manual and set it up with test tones to verify the hardware before trying anything else. Then onboard FM. Then external sources (according to their manuals).

Hum/buzz solutions are common on the internet. Do some web searching for "audio system hum" to find somethign that matches your symptom.

How do i connect coax from cable box to get dolby

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

http://www.retrevo.com/support/RCA-RT2500-Home-Theater-Systems-manual/id/402ag605/t/2/

See page 12 and manually assign the coaxial to something other than the default CD ( SAT seems to be the closest meaning to Cable). Or just select CD and the Cable Box should come in digitally.

It says chk spkr when

You probably have a blown channel. but check for a shorted speaker wire or bad speaker. Remove all speaker wires from the rear of the receiver if it still says check speakers when turned on, then one of the output channels is bad.

The display says "CHK SPKR"

It's telling you it thinks tghere's a short on the speaker outputs. With NO speakers, that is bad.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

I am connected to the TV from the sound system.

You don't say HOW the 'TV' audio is carried to the RT2500? TV's are usually the end of the chain, not a link in it. For multichannel audio you need a multichannel digital source. Is that the TV or would it be the cable/sat box? Try running a digital audio cable from one of those to the RCA.

Buzzing sound coming from all speakers

Can't say for sure (not a lot to go off of) but whenever i hear a buzzing sound from my speakers, its because of a poor connection (broken/exposed/bent) of the audio cables (whether its the red/white, or headphone jack (computers)).

Only humming noise from speakers

The humming is probably caused by failing filter capacitors, these are usually quite large, also look for cold solder joints around parts the heat and cool continuously. Please post an update to further troubleshooting, if this doesn't solve the trouble.

After unit is on several minutes, sound turns to

I had this same problem, check the power transistors attached to the heat sink near the large caps, they tend to get cold solder joints after lots of heating and cooling. 15 minutes and good soldering iron will probably make a huge difference. I added extra cooling fins to mine to help dissipate the heat. hopefully wont go bad real soon again. Also check the large caps while your in there, maybe a good time.
