Can I order a new remote ?
Some TV shops have extra remote stacked up there collecting dust. You may even find one for your particular device, and they probably sell you one for a few bucks. I used to work in an electronic shop where they have lots of remote from items they were never able to fix or customers never came back for them. Most TV shops usually take the remote control along with the item when it is dropped off to be fixed. They may junk the item but they always keep the remote so there is a good chance you may find one there. Make sure you bring the your dvd vcr combo with you, and some batteries so you can test it.

Had a power outage. Now my Samsung DVD+CD combo is
If the unit is now dead or in standby but nothing else the high pitched whine is likely to be a capacitor on the powerboard which has failed, a decent repairer should be able to replace the cap fairly easily although most will just want to swap the whole powerboard out which is expensive.
a capacitor that is whining will usually show itself visually aswell by the top becoming convex rather than flat so if you have electrical knowledge you may be able to identify and replace it yourself although obviously you need to make sure the the unit is not connected to the mains when doing this.

Having trouble finding the correct comcast remote
Check out http://www.remotecentral.com and look for your remote and
your dvd player, the code is for the player but is geared to work with your
particular remote, so look under your brand of remote and then find the code
for your particular dvd player or vice versa. They should also have the instructions
on how to set the code into your remote and you may find a manual there
too. Also there should be a way to make the remote do a search for codes not listed, perhaps you can find that out on remotecentral also.

No power
Sounds like you have a capacitor problem. You need to open the dvd player up and check all the capacitors located on the power board.Make sure it is unplugged and be careful. There will still be some charge inside the unit.

DVD won't play
Its Sounds as if your DVD went kaput this tends to be a problem with most combination players usually the VCR goes first also you may need to run a cleaning CD made for DVD players maybe that will help.

Blue screen on DVD, cannot get menu or picture. No menu on VCR
If its still under warranty, ask warranty cover from Samsung and if its out of warranty then it seems junk. New dvd-vcr combo would be better option because DVD-V3500 sounds got problem in dvd signal processing board causing no-boot up logo and menu etc.

Samsung DVD-CM420 after some time audio cuts off
I don't have the service manual on this so a few more details will help. What is Q10 marked? It sounds to me like the output transistor is heating up because of DC or because of harmonic oscillations. Without an oscilloscope, this may be difficult to locate. Update this with the markings and I'll research this for you.
Thanks,
Dan

Can not play BBC Video Planet Earth
Unfortunately, Samsung does not currently have a firmware update available for that model, but you can check the Samsung Download Center periodically to see if they eventually have one (I'm a little skeptical, b/c this is an analog player).
There are several possibilities:
1) You said it was a "BBC" movie - if the movie was designed for play in the UK, and you live in the US, then the disc might not be a Region 1 disc. If this is the case, you will not be able to play that particular disc in the player. To be sure, check the back of the DVD - it should have a globe that either says "ALL" or is numbered 1 through 6. Region 1 is United States.
2) Is this the only disc that is having the problem? If so, what type of disc is it? If it is a burned disc, try finalizing the disc. If the disc type is variable, then it won't work in that player.
3) Are there any scratches on the disc? If so, there is a product that is alternately called Disc Skip Fixer or Disk Scratch Fixer. They are easy to find in a video game shop, although many stores will have them. Very nifty.
Good luck!

Trys to load and skips from frame to frame
i would try and take off top cover then using q tips to manually clean the lenses dont worry about the laser it is made to move in all directions so go ahead and apply slight pressure when cleaning i usually use a wet one then a dry one to asorb excess moisture.

Not working
Usually if you open up the cover and look by where the power cord comes in there is a fuse. If there is no silver wire running through the center of it or it is any color but clear glass it is blown.
