I've had this problem with trying to record on CD-Rs also. DVD and CD recorders can be very fussy. You just have to get a piece of dust or a fingerprint on the CD or DVD that's being recorded onto and it gets kicked back as a check disc or blank disc.. Another problem is some recorders will only accept certain brands. I've had problems recording onto a SONY CD-R with a SONY recorder! So, in summing up, try a different brand or make sure the disc is clean. Sometimes just taking the disc out and putting it back in in a different position will make the recorder think it's an OK disc. Hope this helps.

Greetings Carl - There are several possibilities, one being that you are using incompatible discs (DVD+R instead if DVD-R as required). The other is that this player is well known for being finicky about even discs of the right type (see above), working well with some brands, so-so with other brands and not at all with still others.

The most likely thing I suspect is that after recording material you are not finalizing the discs. If they're not finalized they will only play on the Samsung and not other devices. This is demonstrated on page 84 of the user manual:

hi,
no disk messege appear because dirty optical pick up.
Open cabinet, than you will see assy loader, open it too.
There are pick up in it. Clean the lenss op pick up use tissue ( don't use wet tissue).
Check spenndle motor ( motor for rotate disk ). Rotate with finger , replace if not rotate smothly.

The optic is bad/dirty.

Try and cleaning disk like dvd DR.

If that doesn't work you will need to try an optic replacement or replace the drive with the exact serial and model of your old drive

This is a common fault and usualy caused by the DVD drive going faulty, The Lazer changes angle as it records across the disc and at about 80% there is a change point.

I suggest putting a cleaner DVD through the unit before you try anything else as a bit of dust can cause that problem. If that doesn't fix it than you may need to change the DVD loader unit as a whole or as you suggested by a new modern unit with even more features.

take the dvd player plug white,yellow & red (line out) & plug these 3 wires into L1 or L2 in on dvd recorder (note on the recorder you must switch the channel from ch3 to either L1 or L2 to record from the player)....... now place the dvd you want to record in player & a blank dvd in the recorder.......press record (recorder)/ press play on (player)

I seem to recall lots of people having problems with Disney DVD/Tapes due to Macrovision. It could be to do with that, as your machine is a recorder. So it might be having a job coping with the copy protection system of these DVD's.
If it has never played Disney DVD's you could get in touch with Samsung, explain what I have said and your problem, they might solve your problem for free, if your not under guarantee.

Is it possible that the region codes of the DVD player and the DVD's are different?
