Major dropout

The flat copper spring's lack of contact with the mechanism absolutely was the problem here! I soldered some copper braid on the spring and soldered the other end to a lug conveniently located on a bracket behind the right side of the drum.
Vodeo 99, you are right. This is a design flaw. And properly grounding the mechanism in this otherwise decent deck should rid you of the white flecks (that do resemble dropouts) in your picture!!

Samsung VCR SV-5000W Tracking Problem

Your chassis ground is intermittant. Remove the VCR cover and look just behind the head drum. You will see two copper tangs sticking out, these supply the ground to the grey chassis and are a pressure fit. Remove the 7 screws from the grey chassis, two are underneath the VCR, two on top near the VHS tape opening, and three larger screws are on top of the chassis (2 near back and 1 near front). This will allow you to lift the grey chassis about a 1/2" and you can then reach below the copper tangs and gently pry them up. Reinstall the 7 screws and the VCR cover and the snow will disappear.

Stopped working, cannot even turn it on and

The vcr has a power supply problem, the repairs will run the cost if not more than a new machine, if the tape is precious and you want to save it, the top will need to come off 2 to 6 screws to access the cassette tape, sometimes you can manually unload it by turning the gears towards you on the side of the basket, but if the tape is spewed or you are not sure how to proceed take it to a shop to have them deal with it.

How to connect a sv5000 on a very old tv?

Does the SV5000 have a coaxial (Channel 3 or 4) output? Connect that output to the antenna input to the old TV. If your TV is so old that it has only a 300 ohm antenna input (2 screws), just use one those old adapters that has 2 scew lugs on one end and a coaxial receptacle on the other, connect a coaxial connector between that and the VCR's coaxial output.

Excessive Dropouts

I had the same problem with my VCR. The problem is not a dirty head. I was connecting the VCR to the A/V input of those new TVs with the digital tuners. I got rid of the problem by connecting the coaxial (analog Channel 3 or 4) output of the VCR to the Antenna input of the TV and tune to plain old analog channel 3 or 4. That way you apparently avoid the digital circuits and those blasted dropouts; Now the VCR plays perfectly on my new 42-inch TV..

Sound but no picture on the vcr

Do you have a picture with just normal playback of VCR? If the answer is no, then it sounds like the head might need cleaning. Use Servisol video 40 see image below:

VCR can not be turned on

The problem has been solved. The failed electrolytic capacitor (1000uF x 16V) in the power supply circuit was found. The VCR was functional after the failed capacitor replacement. This filter capacitor needs to be high ripple current part, so, hopefully the new part (with unknown ripple current capabilities) will work fine.

My SV 500 W is going back into standby 2 seconds

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, have you tried the RESET button on the front panel? This may have been proposed by another member of the site who responded ahead but as I am unable to view their solutions, I have to post it.

Offhand, should the above reset be not corrective, options then are:
  • consider a DIY (do-it-yourself) repair if and only if very familiar with electronic components & circuitry, use of a DVM/VOM, a soldering iron/station and safe working practices with electrically powered devices. Access to a Service Manual or at the very least, a schematic diagram would be a necessity;
  • should you be uncomfortable with a DIY, perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of an authorized Sony Service Center or a qualified professional.
If a DIY is being considered, preliminary check would be on the different voltages of the power supply (PS) board and the conditions of the power/filter capacitors. The schematic diagram of the PS board maybe referenced below.

In some instances, mechanical issues could also trigger the auto-shutdown such as the loading motor, gear, belt.

Good luck and thank you for asking FixYa. Merry Christmas.

7E57 SAMSUNG ERROR CODE ON VCR SAMSUNG SV657X

the machine monitors the pully speeds to make sure tape is actually moving properly .. if it isnt then it halts rather than spool off hundreds of feet of tape inside the machine .. what a mess that would be ... almost always the problem is an idler pully that operates the takeup reel .. the rubber gets hard or contaminated so that it slips .. if it fails to turn the takeup reel then every thing stops ... you an try cleaning the wheel if you can find it .. it usually under the transport mechanism (sometimes available if you can take the bottom off the unit) .. dont use alcohol .. you can use water or special idler wheel cleaner or even a pencil eraser .to clean it ... or for name brands there may be parts still available .. you can just replace the idler pully with a new one ... this requires more work than most people are willing to do ... and if you have someone repair it the cost is often more than a new machine .. if it gives you enough time you might try to fast forward all the way then reverse all the way .. do that a few times and it may clean the idler wheel enough to work for normal play .. ...
