Red bow on top and bottom of 61dx01b

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Samsung pcl5415rb convergence problems

If you bought a kit from sites such as TvRepairKits.com go back and ask for help. If you bought the parts over the internet without instructions you have two common problems...1) Bad/Fake chips... or 2) You did the repair wrong - because you lack proper instrucitons.

Pico fuses - yes - they can be one of many secondary reasons convergence is not fixed on Samsung models.

The green starting to leave

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that you have to replace the convergence IC and check power resistor for leakage, if values are not exact you have to replace them. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is about $300 - and it doesn't mean that he/they will do a job better than you do. The parts are less than $100 (about $20-$30 for the IC's) if you want to do it yourself. Replacing only the IC's MAY solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Why would you ask should you replace both of the IC's if only one is shot?! If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

SAMSUNG PCL5415RB 54" IS NOT TURNING ON

The main idea is to find the short circuit in any area of the tv. The most common suspicious areas are:
  • IC convergence and +/-20v
  • Horizontal output
  • make sure you B+ is around the power supply area.
if all these ideas are familiar to you pretty sure you can repair the unit. If something is strange to you. get an estimate in a workshop to make sure is economical to repair to you, Any help we can provide you after you start digging into the set please post it and we will be helping you.

Samsung pcl5414r power resistors and pico fuses??

Hi again and welcome back to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me'.

Based on your original post, only the STK ICs were replaced. Presumably 392-040, the surrounding resistors and pico fuses could very well have been affected as well. Depending on the board revision (pls confirm location numbering on the actual board), the resistors could be:
RZ104 -RZ106 - 270 Ohm 1/2watt
RZ133-RZ135 - 27K Ohm 1/16 watt
RZ136 & RZ138 - 3.3K Ohm 1/8 watt
RZ146 and RZ147 - 3.9 Ohm 2 watt
RZ148 and RZ149 - 150 Ohm 2 watt
while the pico fuses would look like the image below.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
