Stk392 010 replaced and all resistor ok.but 3color image coming.

Where did you get your chips. They may be bad or your soldering, resistors, fuses, etc may also be at fault. If you need new parts for this repair goto sites such as www.ConvergenceChips.com or www.TvRepairKits.com

Got new STK392-040 chips and picture is still distorted. Manual convergence still won't alligne all colors.

the 183 is entry into the tech menu===you need to test all the low value resistors around the convergence chips(only 6 or 8) and they will read low and a resistor with NO reading may be your problem. Also these sets use a pico fuse going to each chip--either right with it or back at the source----know what a pico fuse looks like"

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Below are more details for both items. Also, complete repair kits with instructions and repair support are avail from site such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

How to adjust the lens-focus?

the lens has a wingnut knob on it, loosen the nut and then rotate the thing to focus in and out. there is also an electical focus in the front of the tv, there is a little black box called a focus block, 6 knobs , 3 focuses for each tube, 3 drive controls (screens).. dont turn the screens, just the focus for the color needed.. look closely they are labeled its just hard to see
the front should pop off, remove what screws you can find, the rest are snaps.. really tough ones.. let me know if you need further assistance.

No power; please help

Nicole,
Pull the back off the TV and locate the convergence board. It's up and to the right in the circuit board area and has two large black Ic's mounted on it. Locate the red colored plug to the left front of that board marked +/- 20v and unplug that. Now plug the TV back in and attempt to power it up - - - if it powers on the picture will be really messed up (unwatchable) but that will tell us if it's a convergence failure. This is the most common problem for these units with those symtoms...
Repairing it will be a snap then... Just let me know...

Tv just turned off and now red light comes on then

The click you hear is the power relay being disengaged. This is what happened: a part on the mainboard just failed; when that happened it has started to act as a short, drawing a lot more current than it's supposed to; this in turn has activated the autoprotection of the power source, forcing it into stand-by. The autoprotection will remain active as long the failed part is still there, acting as a short: it will cut off the tv the moment you're trying to start it.
The only way to fix that is to open the tv then identify and replace the failed part. At least a basic experience in electronics is needed for that, if you don't have it the it's time to call a repairman - it will cost you somewhere around $100 for the labor; parts will be extra.

My tv does not turn

there is a problem on your high voltage section.the power supply section and the horizontal section...Using your ohm meter, check the horizontal output transistor be sure it is not shorted or open.check also the regulator of the power supply.if this two parts are good then try to hang up the convergence IC labeled STKXXXX there might be a problem.remove the IC and try to power on the TV the tv will power on when the convergence IC is bad...check also for open fuses..tnx and good luck!

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

69189a5.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.
