I'm sorry that the TV is displaying ghost blue line with a curve in the screen. Please follow the troubleshooting steps and check the operation:

Please make sure that the connections are secure and proper.
Try connecting a different video source like DVD player or VCR and check the operation.
If it works with another device, the issue might be with the input device currently.
Also try connecting the device to a different port in the TV if no other devices are available.
If the issue persists, try with a different cable.
Perform a power resetting and check the operation. To perform the power resetting, unplug the TV from wall outlet for more than 2 minutes and then reconnect it.

If the issue persists, after all above troubleshooting steps, service may be required. You can click hear to setup a service for the TV.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any clarifications/additional help.

Behind the screen, there are three color tubes: Red Green and Blue.

Unfortunately, rear projection screens often have these problems and the tubes do go out after extended use.

Take the television to a TV Repair shop to have this fixed. But in the long run, this may end up costing you a lot more than if you would purchase a new TV. The light tubes are fairly expensive.

This is a convergence problem that can be either poor solder connections on the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder you can fix this yourself. Update this if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll supply additional details and instructions.

all2brite,

The best place for quality lamps and good prices is http://www.encompass.com . They have options to also allow you to just purchash the lamp, not the entire module. This could save you 30 percent. I would not go this route unless you are good with tools and can think things through.

Either way I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4168009-change_lamp_in_dlp_projection_tv which explains the process and will help you with the repair.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Very strange, and if you disable PIP altogether, you get no image? That would only mean to me that your primary "image" is using the incorrect input.... switch the inputs on the primary image by using the INPUT or SOURCE button on your remote. It should be something similar to that. You should be able to cycle through the inputs on the TV to get a picture from all the different inputs on the back of the TV....

Thanks
Tim

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.
