I have a Samsung HLN467W which has a recurring
You could have 1 of the 2 issues both should be under $300 to repair, But my bet is the convergence issue, it is the most common issue on the planet for RPTVs
1. It is more than likely a convergence issue. This info i want to provide is give you a complete picture of the failure and repair. replacing the board is an expensive alternative to repair.
What is the convergence
you might ask...
You have 3 round crts that need to make 1 square picture. In order to accomplish this you need to distort the pic. before it is sent to the tube to be projected.
The convergence outputs do just that they act like an equalizer does to shape the sound, they do to shape the picture. Just like each control on the eq shape a different section of the sound the C.O shape a different section of the screen and if one control fails you get your issue.
It is repairable and through most shops at less then $300 part, labor, and service call.
Most service companies operate out of small shops and do most of there work in your home not in the shop.
Your best bet to find a local service center is http://www.citysearch.com/, in my opinion, you can also check reviews of local service centers. You could also use a NESDA servicer http://www.tvrepairpros.com/
If you were hoping to repair this yourself i can help point you in the right directions, you will need to locate the convergence outputs, the most common outputs are STK392-110 but on some they are part of a supply board and in that situation the board would need to be sent to http://www.pts-corp.com/ for rebuilding. But not all use the STK392-110 some use xxxxxx-020 or -570 or even 393-010 -080 -110 -120 -150 -570.
2. The other possible cause that could be the problem you are describing is a very common failure it is caused by the up conversion circuit for the HD function, all images are processed through a line doubler and format circuit located on the Hyper board.
The problem is caused by failed surface mounted caps on the Hyper board, which means the board is repairable, but the repair is very intense and the slightest mistake ant you can throw the set away as the HYPER BOARD is No longer Available, you can send the board out to be rebuilt to PTS (http://www.ptscorp.com/) the board is about 4"x4" and stands up from the chassis, on some set the shield is soldered to the main board, so it may be just plugged in but is could also be hard mounted as well as being plugged into the board, the connector is a push locking connector so be sure you hold the lock open when trying to remove the board, it should be near the input jacks and sealed in a steel case and have only a connector on the bottom connecting it to the set.
It should also have a white label on the top the repair of the board should be around $150 if PTS still repairs these, it is not recommend you attempt to repair the board yourself, it is like rebuilding a cars computer, first it is impossible to tell which of the 100 caps on the board are the bad ones.
If you have this professionally repaired ie a repair shop, expect to pay around $300 to have it repaired. In most cases that would include Labor/ Parts and Service call.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
