Hi.

Your TV works projecting the light from the internal lamp on the screen. Before reaching the screen , the light will pass through a 'pipe' whose internal surface is covered in rectangular mirrors, located all over the tunnel surface.

A quite common fault is caused by one of the mirror detaching from the internal surface of the light tunnel, and falling down or hanging in there. This will be seen on the display as a darker shade located near to one side of the screen.

The light tunnel is located in the light engine. To repair the problem the TV must be disassembled by a technician. Accessing and disassembling the light engine is not a repair that can be done by the owner.

Sounds like it's the color wheel. The color wheel is responsible for colorization on your DLP. If that color wheel fails, you'll get funny and funky colors on the TV. You'll also hear a winding sound or a whirring sound. Not all cases you'll hear sounds from the thing, but those are the tell-tale signs that the color wheel is out, or going out.

There are a few other problems like the ballast or color wheel. Hear any sounds? Smell anything?

look online at mat electronics should be able to get it for about 100.00

I found the ballast HV wire going to lamp was burning on this one. For the loud hum it could be the color wheel.

put tv in stand by ( have to be quick ) press i / 5 / vol down then anolog or didgtal on remote the service menu will come up

Was the replacement lamp the same part number as the original as there are different arc gaps for different lamps and the wrong arc gap will cause the lamp not to light. Since the ballast is powering up the lamp should light if the baalast is matched to the correct arc gap of the lamp being used.
