A common problem with these samsung dlp projection tvs is a color wheel , it begins to wear from the motor bushings and the motor starts making a noise and rpm begin to vary, besides the color changing if you notice a hum or buzz be sure that as the motor gets worse the noise will be louder. If you are handy with a screwdriver and can keep good notes you can probably replace it your self. The colorwheel is available from several on line electronics parts stores(partstore.com is one of them) all you need is the model number and the brand, as to the replacement procedure there is a very well detailed procedure on line (with pictures and instructions) just follow the following link:
http://www.jangro.com/electronics/samsung-dlp-replace-color-wheel/ ater you teken a look of what the job consists of you can make the decision to take on the job or not. Good Luck!
I just bought a Samsung HLP5674WX, I was told that
You either have defective Lamp or Lamp Fan is not working or your Ballast board has went out Ballast board is what turns Lamp on and if Lamp fan stops running then lamp will not turn on .Call Encompass Parts Distr. or visit their website online 1-800-638-3328 heres another tip Look on E-Bay for Parts sometimes they are alot cheaper then companys I got Lamp for my TV for 85.00 and Ballast for 65.00 Look under Electronics in search bar type Part number or just say Lamp, Ballast board ect.
Loud noise and only black and white picture
The Color wheel has gone bad. It has actually decintegrated in the housing. No big deal. You need a trained Samsung tech to replace the Color Wheel. Part # is BP96-00250A.
My screen has white dots all over the screen..they
Usually, the white dots (they should look more like small squares) indicates that the DLP chip is failing and needs to be replaced. It's located on the DMD board and is very expensive to replace. If you have an extended warranty, call and get them out to check.
Ballast replacement
Its actually easier to remove the light engine in order to get to the ballast easier unless you have a flexible screw driver. i am not aware of any step by step instructions other than possibly the service manual and often those arent very explicit.
Samsung dlp dnie
just from personal exp the easiest thing to do may fix or at least make it better. if u see puffed and leaky caps on power supply replace capacitors. if really dusty clean. both previously mentioned and both helped me. my tv was completely dead and replacing caps got it to power back up and work. it takes two trys to come on but works great so far. then i cleaned every nook and cranny with a small vacuum hose and different size/angle brushes that could be attached to hose. i only took out the psb board with caps and didnt touch anything in there that i could mess up. just cleaning helped enhance the colors. right now this is the best picture ive had on a tv and it was completly dead when i got it.
SAMSUNG TV HL-85687W picture is dim
(Please check your model number - it appears to be incorrect, I believe it's HL-S5687W) 1) How old is the lamp? (how many hours on it)2) Is the lamp an original equipment lamp, or aftermarket? It's either the Lamp itself (it's not common for a sudden reduction in brightness), -or- the Lamp Ballast has gone bad. This is the power source for the Lamp, and although they usually die completely when they do go, sometimes they will act just as you have described... they fail into a "low power" mode.If the lamp IS an original mfr lamp, and if it's nowhere close to being near "end of life", then I'd say it's likely the Ballast.Prices for the original Samsung lamp run around $100 onamazon and others. The Ballast p/n BP47-00037A has a cost of around $50 to $100 online. Google those p/n in "Shopping"The Ballast can be replaced without great knowledge, but will require some dis-assembly, and CARE.WARNING - Dangerous, and even lethal voltages are present inside your TV set. Do not attempt this unless you are trained in these kinds of repairs. Leave the TV unplugged for several hours (or preferably a full day) before attempting such repairs.
