Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described the issue seems to be with the ballast that has gone bad and should be replaced. However, before replacing that check if you hear crackling or see a spark from the ballast as you have the back off then it means ballast(which is the power supply source of the lamp) is good, if not then you’ll have to replace the ballast. You can also test the wire that runs from the ballast to the power supply and check if it reads around 300vdc...if it does then you need Ballast. If it’s good then it’s the DMD Board that should be replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.
Thanks

My tv comes on then
Hello.
You can't clean fan, it is dead or almost dead it have to be replaced for the new one.
In order to determine which fan it is you have to remove TV's rear cover, locate lamp door switch ( it have blue plastic spring loaded lever) push it (otherwise TV will not turn on) and check which fan does not spin. Generally there are 3 fans - Ballast, lamp and DMD. DMD is the smallest one in size.
If you feel that this is too much to do - ask professional for help, repair should cost you around $200.
Regards.
Russ.

Ihave received a quote on the tv for the color
Even if the guys would have given you the real price - around 250 without the labor - it's still too much for an old tv in which other expensive parts are nearing the end of life. Time for a new one

Have Samsung DLP hl S5086w
Well, if there is an over-voltage, the set is usually turned off to prevent damage to the components. But now that you mention it, the first thing I would check is what's the input voltage, coming into the ballast. I think I have a service manual for this model, so let me know if you know how to use a multimeter and have the experience of working on electronics before.

Tv goes black and can
Hey iterry,
I have the same TV with what seems to be the same problem (screen off, audio remains until turning off->on); posted in several places (including here) but yet to receive a conclusive advice.
Please check the following:
- Does the screen turn off exactly 5 min. later - or when high brightness frames come up (could be 1...2...15 min. into the run;you can check that by pausing on a dark frame for a while)?
- Try altering the set to 4:3, low definition (did mine through my UVerse menus) as well as manually reducing the brightness settings; see if this gives you longer screen activity (I often manage for several hours, until some stupid commercial has a few seconds of a bright-white screen).
If we are indeed both in the same boat, my findings thus far are:
This is not a lamp issue (changed, no difference); not a color wheel issue (changed a couple of months before this ****); probably not a temperature issue - though I'm still checking that.
I'm hoping it's the ballast; will soon check and LYK. Good luck.

Replacing the digital board: bp94-02084a
Dfutch,
Actually replacing most modules in the DLP line are fairly straight forward and you could probably do it with some care and patience. But there are MANY screws and wiring that need to be removed before you get to the board and that can be overwhelming in itself... You just might be far better off to leave the Tv fixin to a tech - who would look pretty stupid trying to put a digital sign together.. :)

I changed the lamp on my TV because the lamp light
First thing to do is to remove the lamp and try to reinstall, and make sure everything is blown out and free of dust, the lamp and door has to be in the right position, to operate right. If that still don't work, then it could be a bad ballast board.
