When I connect my blu-ray to the DVI(with an adatper) I get half a screen and a on screen note of 640x480. what am I doing wrong?

use tv remote change tv settings to higher resolution.

In that case the image processor has failed - you must replace the entire mainboard and this will be very expensive. So expensive in fact that it might be more economic to just get a new projector.

I recently bought an HP

That is exactly what the problem is. The thing about projectors is that they use a series of special mirrors to magnify a tiny image sent by the lamp's input. If even on those mirrors or lens is not in it's perfect position the image won't appear. It must have been damaged during transport ... try adjusting the position of that mirror but also be careful not to damage any of the other parts.

Replace HP VP6321 Projector Lamp

Replace HP VP6321 Projector Lamp

Models: HP VP6321 / HP VP6320 / HP VP6310 / HP VP6300

Here are the steps to replace an HP VP6321 Projector Lamp:

  1. Turn off the projector and allow it to cool for 30 minutes.
  2. Unplug the power cord.
  3. Press the release latch (1) on the lamp cover and remove the cover (2).
  4. Press the release latch on the lamp connector and unplug the connector (3).

5. Loosen the two screws (4) on the lamp module, and pull out the module (5).

6. Insert the new lamp module into the projector and tighten the two screws.
7. Plug in the lamp connector.
8. Snap the lamp cover into place.
9. Turn on the projector. If the lamp does not turn on after the warm-up period, try reinstalling the lamp.
10. On the projector, press Enter.
11. Advanced setup, then Reset lamp hours.
12. Press Enter.

The lamp module has now been replaced and the projector is ready for use.

either the fuse on the power supply is blown, or the whole power supply needs to be replaced.

HDCP compatible

There is no fix to this. basically HP did not make the HDCP very robust. It will DHCP with some DVD players, not all. HP is calling this a computer projector and down play the issue. No fix, try different DVD players. I had good luck with Toshiba HD.
