Guess work. When fine sand (or similar particles) get stuck in-between the tubes (lens barrel) the lens will behave that way. Your case may be caused by something else but its worth trying to fix it yourself first. Prepare a blower or fine brush, ready in one hand and switch on the camera (either fixed to a stand or stand it on a solid surface) Give it a good blow and brush gently (all around the tubes) while the lens is moving. It will stop and work normal when the foreign body is removed. If this does not work, keep asking because other people might provide a better answer.

If it does, slide it back. 2. While inserting the SD card, be sure to face it the right way. 3. If you have access to a computer, check to make sure the card is working.
