The clear plastic cover that covers my screen broke

There are several different sheets of plastic that cover your screen. The outside one is the screen protector, the middle one is the lenticular screen, and the inside one is the fresnel screen. All are available at Encompass.com

Why my TV does not start up and remains in standby?

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem on dvd with no receiver box connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic chargesaccumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by themain chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protectioncircuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occurr are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing statebecause of the video cable.

Try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

I have a convergence problem please help

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony2_bing.gif,Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer2_bing.gif, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit wiith instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms

  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted or warped
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.
Problem #2

Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

  • Dull looking picture
  • White looking picture
  • Halos around objects
  • Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix here

My toshiba 61h71 has a reddish tint to it. Turned

A Reddish tint means that the Green signal is missing. Does the on screen menu look normal? If so, this points to the signal source. The fact that this happend suddenly, I would check your cables first.
Using YUV?
If the TV's Menu also looks reddish then there is an internal problem with the display.
Good luck

Whats the diference between version letters on power board

The parts available list for your 61H shows PD00764 version C as the deflection board for this particular model, it might be that version A would go to a smaller size screen model, toshiba manufactured a 43" and a 53" with this 61" also. So back to your question, all I can say is , if you already have the A version I would compare to version C and keep in mind the connectors(plugs) make sure they are a like, I would imagine that the only diference you would see in the picture would be picture width and vert size. A good idea would be to contact a module rebuilding company(tristate module for example) and get their opinion.
