Toshiba 53H71 53 in. Rear Projection Television - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Toshiba projection tv with lines on screen
I have seen a lot of sets where the problem only happens when the set is first turned on---99% of the time one of the two STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE chips this set uses is Flakey--intermittant---The only way to know is replace both of the convergence IC's and see what you have---a bad IC can cause the set to shut down---and sooner or later the set will just shut down and not come on at all.
Let me know if you need more information about this type of repair as I have done hundreds of sets with this type of problem----every one I have ever seen where the convergence was intermittent----replacing the two IC's cured the problem.

Panasonic PT-47WXC43G Red Color problem
This is a convergence problem; in the customer menu there is an option to adjust it----if red or blue will not move in some direction---one of the two convergence IC's is bad and both need to be replaced.
I have step by step instructions telling what you will need for this repair. They are in Microsoft word----let me know if you want them and I will email them to you. You can buy both chips for this set on Ebay for about 13 dollars plus shipping for a pair.

Panasonic PT-47WX42 blue horizontal convergence failed
Picture you submitted with this is Toshiba--if set is Panasonic pt47wx42 it uses two STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE IC'S----both need to be replaced and any of the blue 2.2 ohm resistors around them that are bad changed also--the resistors are light blue in color--if you locate them look for any that are white in the middle. The convergence chips are on metal heat sinks next to each other and are black(about 2 inch wide and 1 1/2 inch tall). They will have the STK-392-110 number printed on them in white.
You can buy both chips on Ebay for less than 20 dollars including shipping. I have step by step instructions for this repair on this kind of set--if you have the skill you can do it yourself.
Most of these sets just need the two chips changed and the set adjusted. If you cannot do the repair yourself--now is the slow time of year for TV shops--shop around--I do this kind of repair in the home--takes about an hour--shops will try to charge 300-400 for this and I do it for 200-250----I have done hundreds of these sets in the last year.
If someone wants to "take it to shop" keep looking; any good tech can fix this in your home; once the chips are replaced they will be good for about 5 years--some go 8 years.
If you want the instructions let me know and give me an email address and I will send them to you---If you have the skill you can do it yourself--
You did not ask---the reason they fail is there is a white heat sink grease applied to each of them when they are installed--it transfers heat from the chip to the metal quickly--after several years it dries out from the heat and the chip reaches a point where it cannot move the heat fast enough--it then fails.
I do this here for free and if this has been helpful give me a vote here--IF you have any questions or want to have the instructions reply to this here--The instructions are my own--they are in Microsoft word.

Can not get pip to work
Pip has its own tuner, try getting a cable splitter to split the signal into the tv. If you have digital cable you may need a second cable box to do this. If your cable provider still sends an analog signal the splitter will work.
