Toshiba TP50G60 50" Rear Projection Television Questions & Answers
Need to remove front screen from toshiba TP50G50
There is a way to remove entire front screen with the frame----BUT there is a easier way to do this. With set unplugged remove rear cover---wipe the lens you see there first--light source for picture. With a Swiffer type duster carefully reach up and in and get all the webs out.Use no force if up against the inside of the screens as that may scratch them---much faster, safer, and easier than removing screen unit from front and avoids possible damage.SD TECH
Toshiba TP50G60 50 in sound went out?
check the usual things first:Speakers in set did not get switched to OFF instead of ON.If using a box, or receiver that the sound is not turned down or low--not a bad idea to unplug units one at a time and plug back to allow them to reboot. If set has connections for external speakers make sure they did not (either in menu or rear of set) get set to external.Look to see if a DVD player or similar hooked to rear audio and video inputs works and has sound.
How do I change the
Its easy...Pull the speaker cover grills off and look for the vertical screws, I think 2 on each side. Once these are removed, the screen box,(The 2 inch thick front section) will lift up a short distance, this is because its in slots so there are no screws on top. Once you lift it up, you can pull the whole thing forward and off the tv cabinet. If your cleaning the screen, do not use windex!..Use only soft damp cloth and make long vertical strokes.

The flashing power light on those Toshibas is usually caused by capacitors on the power board having failed solder connections. I have fixed them before by removing the power board and resoldering the capacitors. If you have experience with soldering and electronics it is an easy repair. Most shops will recommend replacing the entire board since their labor to repair it would probably cost more. Toshiba put out a service bulletin on this issue which a good technician should be aware of. (If memory serves the capacitors are C109 and C110. Since your TV still turns on you probably haven't blown fuse F860 which often blows when these capacitors act up.)

deesturkey,
Your unit was made in 1997. That is going on 14 years of use. While I like to fix all the TVs I can this one is probably going to keep having problems even if you solve this one. I have a tip at
http://www.fixya.com/support/r6396176-projection_tv_troubleshooting which will walk you through the troubleshooting process and also tell you where to get any parts you need. Keep in mind though that the unit is very old for a projection TV.
Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

This isn't directly related to the Convergence, it's a deflection error: it's called a pillow distortion and the fault is in the modulator, in the high tension/horizontal scan module - one of the controlling diodes is faulty.

That actually sounds like a power supply issue. But I need a bit more info to confirm. What is the status of the LED at the front after it turns off? Also do you hear a "clicking" noise before it turns off?
Please provide this info so that we can continue with the diagnosis.
Sai.
