Pop off front speaker grille, there are 1/4" hex screws holding the screen on, and a connector that needs to be disconnected first. The 1/4" hex screws in the back and sides along the mid section also need to be removed, then the entire top lifts off - be careful, the screen separates from the black plastic part (you might want to lift off the front screen first, that way you can be sure you have all the screws removed.) There was the black power section that was screwed in that needed to be wiggled off first, then the top just slides off easily. Easy to clean and reinstall by putting the black part on first, then sliding the screen up, over, then down onto the black plastic part. Replace all screws and reconnect the connector.
is the red fuzzy and out of focus? there is an electrical adjustment through the front panel, or a physical adjustment on the actual lens. let me know if you need further assistance, here is a link to my convergence tutorial:

i would take the speakers out, the amplifier my have went out, back there you will find them both hooked up to the amp un plug them and the ground or it will make a horrible popping noise.. hook it up to a home theater system (bought my toshiba rp with no sound for $50 did just that now i have an awesome tv. just trying to get rid of a glow around the white letters.
I have a Toshiba HD LCD tV, model 37AV50U. the screen is black. I still get audio and can change the channels but the screen stays black. It doesn't even show the menu box. Is this something I can fix myself?
Touch focus adjusts at a limited number of places the convergence--next time it does this go into menu with the remote and look for CONVERGENCE in the menu, you will be able to call up a grid of lines or crosses--point here is to see if red or blue are out of position, if so with the remote adjust there and see if it stays when next turned on.I tell most people with this brand NOT to use the touch focus--it tends to misadjust things and does not SAVE the adjustments it makes---the ones in the customer and hidden tech menu will be saved.Checking to see if a convergence problem and if so adjusting manually is the first step---may solve your problem and do not keep using the touch focus----its a joke in the repair industry.
Set will have a "HYPER" BOARD causing this issue----there was a service bulletin with a photo of the board with 10 surface mounted filter caps that dry out and need to be replaced. The failing caps tend to begin to regain capacitance when hot---gradually the wait gets longer and longer.Board no longer available from Toshiba so 3 choices: replace the caps yourself (tricky and not easy) or have it sent for rebuilt to PTS electronics (about 200) or go shopping for a new set and retire this one.
change the 10 or so surface mounted bad filter caps in the Hyper module this set uses--the board is no longer available--it can be sent out for rebuild (not toshiba) but that is rather costly (200+)
You would be best moving it on a truck, vs. a trailer. I know that height is a concern, but this damage due to debris can be minimized by judicious use of refrigerator boxes (see local sears store) to protect it.
Either way, plan on having to realign the screen when you finally get it moved. This is normal. Moving on a trailer just might permanently misalign the screen so that the processor in the tv cannot compensate for it.
UHaul also rents blankets / pads without having to rent anything else as well. You might consider that option.
On the other hand, this tv was likely trucked across America inside a trailer on the back of a semi. But that trailer also had a lot more weight in it as well. Personally, I would move it using a pickup.
Set is in shutdown---most common reason on this model is shorted convergence IC's--set uses 2 of the STK-392-110 chips.About the only way to know is have someone get at them and unsolder all the pins on both chips---if set then turns on (will look very bad) one of the chips is bad and both must be replaced.Short of that it is a shop repair.
Based on model number if have sound but no brightness the set is blanking or shutting the 3 tubes off because of a problem that could damage them.Set needs to be inspected either in the home or a shop.
Typically this is a convergence problem and can be repair relatively easy. Refer to this video to determine if you truly have a convergence problem. Also make sure you use your TV's original remote to make this adjustment.
did you try power reset leaving unpluged for 5 minutes
it might be the power house component went out
do u get sound at all
this might be indicator of bulb replacement if no picture but sound
First thing to look at would be the source, make sure that this source whatever it may be is set to display a 16X9 format. Your set may simply be showing what it see's and it may be seeing the 4X5 format and giving you a problem
its either the bulb or the ballast or might b both if u fix 1 u might as well fix both otherwise youll fix the bulb n itll blow within 6 months then you'll have to replace it again so i reccomend fixing both at athe same time :)
