this is very common with these sets. the fix is to replace 11 very very smal capacitor on what is known as the hypermodule. The ideal sitation is to replace the hypermodule. if you can find it. I can do this repair. I have done about 10 at the shop. if you need to i would suggest finding someone who is very experence in surface mounted repair

are there any flashing lights showing on the front panel when you turn it on?

You do not have individual lamps in that model. You have 3 individual picture tubes of which I don't believe they are bad. They have fluid in a reservoir that becomes cloudy after time and needs to be replaced, however this is something you cannot do yourself. I recommend you call a qualified technician to take care of it for you.

There are a number of fuses on the main board about 10. One is and glass fuse were the power cord is, that one is ok because of flashing. the other ones are solder-in and you will need a meter to check them, they start with an F---- and some numbers and are marker on the board. Good Luck

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence


These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

No need to take the front screen out. The power deflection board is messing up with that red light.

This tv does not have a lamp but there are three picture tubes. do you want the Picture tube specs? You can download the manual from tech support at this site and many other for free. Check out for FAQs on rear projection tvs on www.fixurtvs.com.

There isn't really an absolute answer to your question. The power supply affords some protection to the rest of the set when the components designed to prevent short-term power spikes activate but their primary purpose is the protection of the supply. There is surely a fuse on the line-side of the supply, then there are two more devices normally included (they cost little) that will force the fuse to blow if a certain line voltage peak is encountered, a type of resistor that is actually a semiconductor that has little effect until its design is exceeded; it then looks electrically more like a  dead short, causing the fuse to blow. The other device doesn't do much after the first few cycles of AC and is there to reduce 'inrush' current. Well-designed supplies will have fuses on the output side of the supply that protect specific voltages and circuits.
Could the low-level circuits have been affected?  Yes, but in some cases, only a working supply and time would show up some kinds of failures.
In addition, I always include the suggestion pasted below:
If you live in an area of frequent lightning strikes, investing in a 'whole house' surge arrester makes sense.
These are installed in the main breaker box and any brand I've seen comes with a $10-25,000 insurance policy to replace any dead appliances that fail despite the surge protector.
They cost $150-250 US plus installation which you can save if you are afraid to DIY.         

it is a good tv over all, so I think is worth fixing. because when it works, it give out a very nice picture compared with other rear projectors or DLP's for that matter. and it was also expensive for a reason, no?
It's the convergence IC's that need replacing. STK 110. you can put in there 150 or 180's. If you are not handy with this kind of stuff have someone put it in for you for about 200 bucks and the 2 chips are 10-15 bucks each.

Guys, I 've replaced my STK's and and it was a 2 and a half hour challenge job for me, in the hope I solve the dreaded red light blinking issue. I have soldered both STK's nice and neat and everything looks in order. One of the problems you might face, is your soldering gun. There are 4 heavy duty pins that keeps each STK in place, and you need a powerful gun to take care of those. The rest of the pins are very small, and you need a different setup for your soldering gun. You also need a suction pen to be able to to take all those pins out.
But it's not a heavy headache, it's just a light one:)
Also the thing is to remember each wire assembly you disconnect and put it back. It takes patience, and you don't wanna destroy them :( For some , that by itself could be a challenge. The Board containing the two STK's is connected to the power board with three neat assemblies....you pry those up from the top suction, and away from the power board.
BUT, as I recall, most of the challenge has to clear that board loose.

Your STK parts might not be your problem for blinking red led. As I have read throughout other forums, the first think to address is your power deflection board .....that's the first one that goes. If it is the first time, it might be that only a couple of fuses on that board go bad, I had the same problem with mine, as I remember correctly, F850 and F852 were bad....I replaced mine and had tv for 12 months when a storm caused the whole power to go on and off a few times and screwed up my set and now more parts on power board are messed up. I'll replace mine in totality.
Convergence STK's will tell you when they go bad because you will notice something with your picture right before they give in. But in your case, you can't turn your set on.
Try to put your hands on info that tells you about codes on that blinking light. I tried to find that kind of info but I didn't try hard enough. I wish I have it, it could save me a ton of headache.
