Toshiba 40h80 red light blinking

I would suspect the problem is in the convergence circuit---only one simple way to know---get at and un-solder all 18 pins on both the STK chips it uses.Once they are free try to turn set on--if it comes on one of the chips is bad and both will have to be replaced.12_6_2012_12_54_51_am.jpg

This is a protection circuit that prevents the tv from coming on (to stop damage of the components) ....you need to check your voltages off the power supply and make sure they all read well (EX: 24v12v5v etc). Also look for popped capacitors that would make the values lower than need be for the tv to power on properly.

Once you repair the power supply then you may need to replace other components if needed!

Toshiba 40H80 --- When the

The reason why its not powering on is due to a protection fault. That is the reason why the green light comes on, blinks for a while and is turning off. We should perform component level testing on the components, to locate the faulty ones and replace them. This gonna need skills in 1) Using a multimeter 2)Using a soldering gun(to remove the faulty components and replace them with new ones). I do have a service manual for this model and I will guide you to do this yourself if you have worked on electronics circuits before. Note that the set holds residual voltages that can cause permanent disability due to electrocution if not handled carefully. If you want to continue let me know. Otherwise get me your zipcode and I will get you a list of techs in your area.

I have oil coming out

p1407glover,

The oil that you saw is really water with some additives. It is used to cool the CRTs. They are run very hard to produce enough light to make a good picture and without the coolant the tubes would be destroyed. The bad news here is that unless the leak is found and fixed and the coolant replaced the unit will fail.

First of all turn the set off and do not use it. If you have no skills that would allow you to find the leak and fix it and replace the coolant call a reputable electronic shop and have a technician come and fix the unit.

The best fix would be to replace the tube. Fixing it is really not an option. If you replace it and the set is older there may be a problem balancing the tubes but a technician should be able to tell you what your options are.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

My HD DLP Projection TV

Hi,

Understand that I am not in the room with the TV. I can only give you information based on previous experience with this type of set.

I would diagnose this as a bad light engine. This is not a cheap part unfortunately (over $800) and a quick search of the web will turn up a lot of Toshiba DLP owners with the same problem. The light engine can be replaced by you if you are reasonably technically minded.

The only wise option would be to call Toshiba and feel them out. See if they will offer you any help. This model is a couple of years old so I doubt you have a warranty but they may be in a good mood and meet you half way with the repair costs - stranger things have happened to people who kick up enough of a stink.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

The screen went to a 3d mode

Projection TV2_bing.gif sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung2_bing.gif, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith2_bing.gif, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D2_bing.gif
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash2_bing.gif focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

I can not get the convergence to adjust?

Your symptom sounds like a damaged convergence IC.

This is a common failure for this particular television.

There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. Some of the newer sets only have one. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink2.gif. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110, and they are located on the signal board (on the left as you look into the back of the set).

Along with the convergence IC’s there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC’s and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values.
There are also two resistors on the front of the board located in the middle that are fusible link resistors, these should be checked for opens and replaced if they are found so.

I would suggest that you contact a service center in your area for a complete diagnosis and repair, as this type of repair can get a little tricky. But if you want to repair the set yourself, just remember to be careful. The capacitors and CRT’s can hold a charge and may shock you.

If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics2.gif in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

You can also try http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , I have not tried them yet, but they do carry OEM or better parts.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
If you need further assistance please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.
