Will my toshiba tv bought in uk work in usa

There are two things you need to know regarding your TV. Power requirements and broadcasting standards. 1:POWER Look on the back of the TV and find the sticker or label that mentions the INPUT VOLTAGE. If it reads 220-240V 50Hz then it will not work in the USA. If it reads 110-240V 50-60Hz then it MAY work in the USA. At least you know it will work if you change the plug on the mains cable. 2: BROADCASTING In the UK, broadcasts use the PAL system to display images on the screen. In the USA, broadcasts use the NTSC system to display images on the screen. You need to check the manual that came with your TV to see if it is capable of receiving an NTSC signal. This signal is used in everything in the USA from PVRs, to DVD/HDD recorders, satellite systems, public access and cable systems. If your TV meets the power and broadcast requirements then it should work.

Have a perfect picture but no sound. What can be the problem?

Toshiba says: toshiba_icon_white.pngIf there is no sound from the TV try the following:
  • Ensure the TV isn't muted.
  • Check that the TV speakers have not been manually turned off in the menu settings. Refer to the User's Guide for your specific model TV.
  • Ensure the input for the connected device (DVD / Blu-ray / Cable / Satellite / Game Console) is set properly on the TV. Click here for help with TV inputs.
  • Check that the connected device audio settings are configured send sound through the audio input connected to on the TV. Refer to your device manufacturers instructions.
  • Make sure the connected device does not require a separate audio connection to the TV

How to get analog channels on my Toshiba?

The problem is probably that your antenna can't pick up any of the remaining analog stations in your area. Only low-power stations are still broadcasting an analog signal. If you are using an indoor antenna, you might the signal with an outside antenna with an amplifier. (Check a site like tvfool.com to get the direction to any nearby analog station and make sure that your antenna is oriented correctly. This site or antennaweb.org will also help you orient your antenna for the digital stations in your area.) You need a set-top digital tuner or a converter box to translate the OTA digital signals (ATSC) and translate them to the analog NTSC format. Low end converter models with only SD output are harder to find but still available. However, there are some converter boxes that have HD output as well. This one, http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?mc=03&p=3500STB&d=iView-HD-DVR-ReceiverConverter-Box-for-TV-Antenna-QAM-(3500STB)&c=Digital%20Converter%20Boxes&sku= , lets you attach an external drive (USB flash drive or hard drive) . It connects via component video or HDMI. (We've had good luck with our model with a portable (2.5") external hard drive. It replaces the SD converter box and DVD recorder.) I hope this helps. Cindy Wells (In my area, there is only one low-power station still broadcasting. Its transmitter is nearly 40 miles and can only be picked up with the external antenna and amplifier. If the weather is bad, we will lose that signal. Beware: an amplifier can become damaged and block the signal. The usual check for this removing the amplifier and attaching the antenna directly to the TV. For low-power stations, this test doesn't often help.)

I have a JVC model AV-56P575 TV. I was given a FUNAI #NB620FX4 DVD/Blueray player. The DVD player only has a plug for electrical outlet and one for HDMI cable. I connected the HDMI cable to DVD player

try and change the digital audio settings on the players setup menu, it could be miss matched to that of the TV.

My outter screen for my toshiba rear projecter screen is cracked i want to replace it

This suggestion is a little outside the box but I would hit garage sales and auctions or flea markets. These TVs are all over the place for as little as 10 dollars in all working conditions. Buy one that has the same size screen or larger and swap it out. On a larger one trim it down with a very fine tooth saw or masonary saw.

The picture on our Toshiba 50H82 rear projection

Thats almost always caused by the surface mount capacitors which get weak on the hyper board. Hyper boards are going to be hard to find. But the capacitors can be replaced which will usually solve the issue. However it will require precise soldering skills to do the repair.

Replaced both convergence ICs in

l have some suggestions:First: double check all your soldering on the chips, and all the plugs you may have removed.Second: Unsolder all pins on both chips in the set and see if set comes on. It is rare but from time to time you may install a new IC that is bad; if you discover you shorted pins to another pin when you soldered that may be telling you the new chip is now shorted.Usually when you have one kind of problem and then another after you replace parts something you did went wrong or the new part is also bad. This is not the most easy set to get at those chips (I have done a lot of them in peoples homes) and you should also always examine all the 1.8 ohm resistors around them, do not just look but test each carefully.Let me know what happens.SD TECH

My tv keeps jumping backwards

This is a fault solution which can be checked and corrected by you assuming that there is no component failure. There is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling, tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs or poor performance.

The best way to check for loose connections is to tap lightly when the set is powered on , If there is change while tapping then it seems that there are DRY solder joints. Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points.

Sometimes the fault occurs when the set warms up, if so you can simulate the heat using a hair dryer on the suspected areas, try with the power supply, distribution, Processor controller, driver controllers on the A/V related sections. Also the use a FREEZE-IT spray can simulate the components to cool and show up the fault.

Based on the above method you must be able to locate the area of fault and solder the sections. Sometimes large IC's- ones with more pins- tend to have drying in some pins and so cause faults related to the IC's protocol. Have a rough idea of looking into the areas to reduce the time of probing.

Check for tips to look into the SMPS unit with some of my tips:

When turning on the TV,

You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections.

The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down or will keep it from turning on when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts, which includes millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Diodes and IC can go bad.

This may have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced.

The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment specifically designed for TV service and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

Horizontal amp chip needs re soldering.--- very common !
Horizontal amp chip has failed and needs replacing !
Failure of electrolytic capacitors in vertical circuit
Failure of resisters that supply volts to the vertical circuit
Failure of deflection yoke ( not very common )

Also it might be a convergence board failure. Changing one board will not necessarily fix it. It is recommended to change all 3 boards in the unit. many try this as a DIY and fall afoul because it is a specialist job to retune and reset the parameters. The cost then becomes greater than if a tech did it correctly the first time. Be advised it is not a simple DIY.It requires soldering and desoldering skills, specialized tools and a knowledge of circuit diagrams.
