I would suggest to leave your directtv hd/dvr box connected the way It is. The HD Colorstream 1input on your TV should work just fine. This TV does not have an HDMI input but you can buy an adapter and connect to DVI/HDCP IN and that might be able to get 1080i video resolution on your TV.

either is sound IC has blown, or the sound section of the tuner needs a repair. I have repaired many tuners for sound. Some technicians never repair a tuner hence it would need a replacement if it can be physically removed. If a tuner is printed on the main board the whole board may need to be replaced.

you should not remove it. you can weaken the structure of the tv frame..there will be inspection holes in the side use a feather duster to clean it out.

Blinking red power light indicates a fault. Make confirm about how many times do this link blinks after one time switch ON. Make it sure, by doing this at least two times. These are called blinking codes. From these number of blinks, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it, will make troubleshooting easy. If you project it on a distant wall the convergence will be way off since the tv was designed to project it just a few feet at most onto the screen. So you would have to do some manual adjusting... As for the screens you need the two layers...if one is broken get a broken model like yours on Craigslist for parts or check with www.TvRepairKits.com for screens...they are stocking some

This is fairly easy to do.

You will work from the back of the tv.

Steps:
1) Unplug the tv and wait a ten minutes for components to discharge.
2) Take the back panel off which is the brown pressboard with all the holes. Probably about 12 screws for that tv.
3) Take the back top plastic shround off if you want to clean the mirror. There are about 15 screws around the perimeter of the shroud, and maybe two in the back.
4) gently lift the shroud off the tv, it will have the mirror attached to the back of it so be gentle and careful.
5) lay the shroud on the floor so you can clean the mirror with window cleaner or non-streaking solution.

6) with the shroud off you should be able to see the tops of the CRT lenses covered in dust. Clean those gently. Do not bump them or turn the lens in any way otherwise you may need to do some re-alignment and/or re-focus of the CRTs.

7) DO NOT USE window cleaner on the back of the screen or front of the screen. You should get screen cleaner solution for this specifically. It might be best to just vacuum the spider webs off the screen and not clean it if you don't have the screen cleaner handy.

To clean the dust off the circuit boards, here is a tip:

With a clean soft paintbrush and a shop vac, or house vacuum, use the paintbrush and lightly brush around the components and on the circuit board. Have the vacuum hose right next to the paintbrush so it sucks up the dust as you stir it up. BE GENTLE on the components.

Stay away from the CRT necks and do not use your fingers. Remember the CRTs can still be carrying a good electrical charge, so best to avoid them.

Re-assemble the tv after everything has been cleaned. Figure it will take about 45 minutes if you haven't done it before.

If the convergence adjustment through your remote control didn't cure the symptom, this is an indication of bad convergence board inside. The most common parts affected is the convergence chip/IC and some of the resistor around. Best way and easy fix is to buy the entire board because sometimes it has a little difference only compared to buy the parts. But the problem is your board isn't available yet at the market. You will forced to buy the chip/IC and some of the resistor. If you don't have tools and test instrument to troubleshoot the problem, I would advice you to look for a proffesional to do the job for you, or send it to your local service center.

The tv have a problems known as a convergence problems it dead.Tv have colors lines R,G,B mis alignments,have colors shadows or 3D pictures look alike?The tv convergence board have dead 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.These parts on the tv convergence board must be replaced to fix the tv convergence picture problems.The shop,will cost u like $300-350 for parts and labors.

Most often No Sound with Toshiba 57H83 is:

1. TV has a Sound on-off switch on the input panel at the rear of the TV. Very hard to see, black on black. Used to turn off speakers if you use a separate or external sound system for speakers. Usually gets moved while connecting hd cables or dusting and vacuuming in cramped space at the rear of the TV.

2. Someone accidentally changed Sound settings with remote to CC (closed caption) or SAP. Turn off in sound menu and save preference.

3. Sound input plugs from external cable or sat box unhooked or wrong input.

Toshiba 57H83 no sound fault is not common. If you still have no sound, get local service.

Or troubleshoot yourself to determine if Tuner, IF, processing, sound demod, switching or sound output circuit is smoked. Then make an installation plan.

If it does not save you have a problem with either the convergence output chips or the part of the set that stores the adjusments.

It appears that you may have a green drive issue. Try adjusting the Sreen Control it is located in the front of TV.
1) Remove Speaker Grill (it just pulls off) start at one end, 2) Remove cover (5-6 screws), 3) Adjust control. The control is located on lower right side towards bottom. A small black device with 2 rolls of controls, adjust the center control on bottom row counter clock wise, until you get a black and white picture.(adjust with color control to min).
If this does not work you light bulb (CRT) is bad about a $750.00 repair.
