My toshiba 32a42a power button is broken. Most remotes require the tv to be on so you can program it. How can i turn it on.

Contact the authorised service center for Toshoba to get a knob for ON'OFF switch to your TV. It is very easy to fix it.

Is not working remote so i got a univesal remote

hi, usually if the remot control is ok, the the infrared receptor that need to be replace, he is placed near the stand by light.
in a rare case the problem is at the 5v voltage that goes to the receptor. more rare is the possibility
that something is wrong at the microprocessor circuit. good luck!

No audio

If you are not getting any audio from tv channels and playing a DVD or VHS cassette or a Wii and these devices are connected to different parts of the television then the tv is to blame. The speakers would probably be more than the television is worth to fix at this point. I recommend a sound bar. We purchased one on black Friday from Radio Shack an Auvio brand. It is gorgeous and I have a DVD player and converter box connected to it. We have theater sound and FM radio as a plus now.

TV will not turn on. Power light just blinks

Hi, on most of the CRT(glass picture tube) TV the common failure area is the deflection or power supply board(s). If you're TV is a 32AF42(what shows in your post)there is a remanufactured board available at partstore.com. I suggest you take a quick check at the deflection board in the TV set and try to determine if this is the board to replace, horizontal output transistor, flyback or horizontal out transformer, power supply regulator are some of the components to check. good luck!

My toshiba 32a42a does not have a power button-how

This set has a power button on the far right of all the buttons on the front. I looked at page 11 of the owners manual http://ec1.images-amazon.com/media/i3d/01/A/man-migrate/MANUAL000001840.pdf and it shows it very clearly. It looks as if the power button may be turned the opposite way from the other buttons. Thanks

CONNECTING DTV CONVERTER AND STILL USING DVD PLAYER

Get a set of video cables to connect the DVD player to the TV.
Then follow the numbered instructions in this post to connect the DVD player, and use your TV remote to switch the video mode when you want to watch a DVD, then switch it back when you want to view TV.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.

Want to use DTV converter with my Toshiba 32AF42

If you're not on cable or satellite, you will need an antenna to get off-the-air reception. This TV does not have a DTV tuner, so you will also need the converter box. Depending on how far you are from the broadcasters' transmitters, you might be able to get away with an indoor antenna. Or you might find that you get few channels with the inside antenna and then you'll need something outdoors. There are a number of styles to choose from.

The antenna hooks to the converter box, and the converter box then goes to the TV. It can be hooked to the TV's "ANTENNA" connector. This should be covered in the set's manual where it shows you how to connect a regular antenna. With the box, your TV will always stay on channel 3 or 4 (depends on how you set up the box) and you'll change channels on the converter.

You can also connect the converter to the TV with audio and video cables like you would a DVD player. Most of the "coupon-eligible" converter boxes include direct video and audio output jacks. This gives you better picture and sound quality than by hooking it to the TV's antenna input.

Hooking up a converter box is like going back in time to when cable TV was new and you had to get a converter box from your cable company. Same way of hooking it up. Hope this helps!

TV has fuzzy piture, all colors, but contrast is awful

I think you'd have to look at how much a comparable set would cost. I know that flat screen sets are coming down in price.

One thing you could try is to adjust the focus control although if it just went all of a sudden, then this may not help. There are two controls on the flyback transformer. Follow the thick red wire from the top of the picture tube down to the transformer that it's connected to on the circuit board. There will be two controls, the upper one being focus (marked with an "f" or the word focus). Try adjusting this while watching the picture. A mirror may be helpful. At the same time, be very careful what you touch in there, any metal part could have high voltage on it. As long as you are just touching plastic parts you should be ok. A good rule of thumb is to keep one hand behind your back as you work so as you don't inadvertantly ground yourself to the chassis while touching something with a high voltage on it.

If this scares you a little perhaps it's worth taking the set to a shop for an estimate.

No sound

NO Sound
First check to make sure there isn't a mute switch or switched to external speakers, then
use ohmmeter to measure the speaker resistance (3ohm to 30ohm is usual).

Now find the speaker wires, and follow them down to the pcb, and look for a chip with
7/8 legs then measure the voltage on all of its legs, you should get 8v to 20v on one pin and half of that on one of the others, the internal circuit of most chips is that of a push/pull output stage, with the output coming from the middle of the pair of transistors.
(if there is no chip then it will actually be a transistor push/pull pair).
snd.gif

If no voltage of at least 6v then look at the pcb from each leg of the chip, and look for an electrolytic cap to earth, thats the power line,
so follow it and look for a voltage regulator or straight from power stage (PSU),
and test if voltage there.

check for fusible resistors and power diode and smoothing cap.

If voltages are ok, then when your meter (other probe hanging loose) probe touches the input pin ,a buzz from speaker should sound, if not then change chip.

if buzz occurs then your looking for the SIF chip,
so look for a three legged Xtal filter with 6mhz (5.5mhz europe) thats the chip.

Questions
Is the eeprom/micro pro set to a different country sound system ?
Is the mute line on ? micro pro control
Is the speaker switch set to internal ?
Is there power to the output chip ?
is there at least one pin (on the o/p chip)with about half the power voltage ?
Is there power to the sif chip (12v) ?
Is the tv from another country (different xtals) ?

Hope this may help you;

Regards,

Quite possibly the HVT arcing, which will eventually fail.

The problem with them arcing is they can be doing damage to other components.

Best to have it checked by an experienced tech.

Demo mode

Hi i,m ken I am working on this problem, I found this tv has chip problems, start at the power supply ($100) and go from there. If the power supply checks out ok check the chips, there is a way to reset the chips, also disconnect any add ons to the tv, and try that. I was told you can remove the batteries from the remote press all the buttons and reset the chips, but they did not have good results! I will keep working on this. ken
