When you open the cassette door, there is a metal piece in the back that pushes the tape ajainst the head. If that is broken or bent, you can get low audio. Other possibilities are a dirty tape head or misaligned head.
My Panasonic RR-930 transcriber speeds
Start by cleaning the capstan roller. The rubber roller and small steel rod just above it, control the tape speed. Just a little lint, build up or animal hair wrapped around this can cause the speed to vary. Clean with alcohol and a Q-tip.

If your talking about the record lever just above the tape deck, there is a black plastic retaining ring at the top of the shaft. Pull this off with a pair of pliers. The arm will then slip off the shaft. On reassembly, just push the retaining ring back on. It sits in a groove in the shaft.

If neither rewind nor backspace work, the common problem would be that the solenoid grease has dried up and the solenoid is not retracting all the way. However, the track that the mechanism moves in also wears out, as well as the plastic rocker that depresses the rewind button where it engages the metal slide.
If backspace works but not rewind from the pedal then the problem is the pedal.
The play button will not stay down.
This button is held down by a sping and catch. It is released by the stop/eject button. Most likely cause is dirt or dry grease in the mechanism, either keeping the stop button down or keeping the play button from being fully depressed. That part of the transcriber rarely fails mechanically.
It won't play, rewind or
Most likely the belt is broken or has jumped off. This requires some major disassembly, but the belts can be purchased for about $2. If the belt is okay, then check motor leads, they often break off.
WONT REWIND OR ERASE
Could be a number of issues. Worn belt, loose reel cap on rewind spindle or broken rewind activation switch. You will need to get it serviced as none of the solutions are easially repairable.
Only used 2 months.
Could be a few problems. Sometimes the lube dries up on the solenoid so it is not engaging. Could have the rewind switch on the circuit board broken loose. possibly needs belts as well.
How do you change the drive belt?
This is not an easy task on this model. First make sure you remove the power cord as you can easially receive a deadly shock. You have to remove 5 case screws, then the deck screws, then 2 pc board screws, 1 which is hidden in the slide control assembly. Remove the button assembly. You need to get the complete assembly out working around cables, and the solenoid lever. Then there is a screw on the bottom of the circuit board to the deck that needs to be removed. Now you can get to the belt. Replacing the belt on this model requires a high level of expertise and is not reccomended for the inexperienced technical person.
