assuming something isnt blown it sounds like you are having the same problem as me. when you remove the top of the of cover of the unit you will need to look in the back left hand corner of the unit where the power cable comes in. next to the fuse is a small black box that has a relay inside. you will need to remove the outside cover of this relay. make sure the power is unplugged on the unit before you go playing around the 120v input area, but once the power is removed, you will need to remove that cover. you should be able to get it with your fingers, but if not grap it with a pair of needle nose or something. more than likely the cover will crack if not break into a million pieces due to being brittle from years in the heat of your amp. its ok if it does. inside of this you will see a small relay which looks like a coil of small copper wire. on the top (side opposite the board it is connected to) is a silver piece of metal and if you push down on it, it should move like a lever causing two small copper pieces to the left to make contact. (warning: if you know about electronics and relays skip to the next paragraph) basically the coil of wire is an electromagnet. when you try to turn on the unit it powers that electromagnet pulling the shiny piece on top down as long as the unit has power forcing those to copper pieces together, which allows voltage to pass through the circuit just like flipping a light switch.Your relay is too weak for whatever reason to force the circuit shut and will either click one good time or maybe a couple of times. you may even find that if you keep hitting the button it will come on eventually. unless you are good at soldering and want to waste the money I dont suggest replacing the relay. what I did for the cheapest fix possible was use some electrical tape and wrapped it around the relay forcing the contacts permanantly closed. Now be warned that if something else is wrong with your unit, or you short something in the future you may or may not have the type of protection you would normally have because this relay will not open. it may just blow the internal fuse if something shorts, it may fry the unit. I cant say for sure, because I havnt had that happen. so avoid shorting things or throwing bits of metal shavings and screws inside the unit while powered and you should have a working unit.

Note that you have to do this with the remote control, there arent any buttons that will work on the front of the unit. If you don't have the remote (like myself) and you have an Android phone with a remote IR blaster installed, I was able to use the app ZappIR. In the app you select the model and it supplies you with a ton of buttons. I randomly pressed the buttons until "sub off" displayed, the rotated the multi jog selector on the unit itself till "sub on" appeared.

There is a fuse inside.If it blows when you replace it there it could ba a problem in the standby power circuit.

You need to hit the tape monitor button again to turn it off. If the tape monitor is on, no other audio will be output to the speakers.

Any powered sub woofer will work. Just hook it up to the sub pre out with an RCA Cable.

take cover off . look for the power supply,just above that to the left is a little black box,its where the clicking is coming from.take the cover of the black box. if you tri to turn it on it will click and spark but want stay together.so take screwdriver and push the end, in untill it stays, it may take a minut.when it does it will power up. i have the same unit with the same problem and got it to work like this. now it works fine.i did this just to what would happen,nothing to lose.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Was it a simple outage or a surge? You may have something as simple as a blown fuse. However, before opening the set, make certain it is unplugged. Better safe than sorry.

Yes, for stereo only draw a stereo line pair out of the Aiwa's Tape REC Out; or from Video2/LD/TV Out - and don't select that function as a source.

One other thing you might try is running you hand across all the buttons on the front of the unit to make sure none of the are sticking closed. As this will give a indication of being locked up. In this state the Microprocesor will be in a loop trying to do the same function over and over again, the result of this is no other functions will work until it is resolved. If no buttons are sticking in the pushed posistion then open the unit and check all fuses on the secondary side of the large power transformer for opens. On this unit you should hear two clicks from two different relays, the first is the standby relay, and at this point the unit does what is called a post test (Power on seff test), if all goes well during this time the micro sends signal to close output relay this is second Click at this point music is heard. You did not mention if your display is working or not if not then you are missing voltage supplies from the power supply. I would be more concerned right now with the secondary low voltage supplies at this point, providing first solution does not work

Im assuming you have AV-D57 5.1 channels receiver which is not compatible with many other sub speaker systems without rigging the system unless it has male rca jack and power woofer. your 5 pins Phillips sub-woofer has 5pin plug is not adaptable to your Aiwa system unless the sub has an rca male jack. In the back of your Aiwa Receiver you will see a rca femal jack for you sub-woofer connection, it should be #10 female jack counting from left to right and printed on the back of your receiver as a SUB WOOFER. In order for your phillips 5pin sub-woofer to work on that channel is that you have to find the right two wires positive and negative from your speaker and wire rca jack using soldering gun to connect rca jack to you phillip sub woofer speakers, next I believe out of that five pin it also has the power supply to your sub woofer which you also have to make a power supply to the sub. You better off getting a correct type of sub to work with your nice unit. If your sub is compatible, than your receiver would also have a 5pin plug in.

There are no speaker teminals on your unit for subwoofer.

This means the Subwoofer Pre-out you are using will not power your speaker - it is a signal ONLY for an amplifier.

So while the unit indicated the subwoofer is selected, and turned on - that is for a SIGNAL only, and the 5Volt DC Signal will not power your speakers which require an AC signal and power (measured in Watts).

Check your Speaker control button. Most receivers have a small button on the front used to control your choice of Speaker Set A, B, A & B, or NONE. It's possible you have inadvertently pressed the button and set it to where no speaker set is selected. Therefore, no sound.
Another probable cause is that one of your speaker cables may have become dislodged at the back, and if your system has an overload control mechanism, it's preventing sound to come out to avoid damaging your output transistors, your speaker system, or both.
The last (I hope not) possibility is that the volume may have been cranked up too high, that either the output resistors may have blown on your receiver, or your speakers may have given out the ghost due to too high a signal.

my son had blown the speakers up that came with this unit(d57) and he replaced the spkrs w/sonys and the stereo dont sound the same, cannot get balancing right ,,where can i get the same spkrs that came w/this unit

I have the same system, the ports for surround speakers only seem to work with the actual surround speakers I bought mine with. I did try to change them but found a sound issue. Looking to buy a new 5 cd changer as mine was damaged during our recent move. Looking to buy model number DX-Z9400M
